The moment of the explosion of the Russian missile that killed two girls in Chernihiv.
The Russians also struck Chernihiv with a "Banderol" missile. As a result of the strike, two 15-year-old girls were killed, and 15 people were injured.

westerner in Ukraine steals Ukrainian work and is now upset it might have been a five second video, but these maps take dozens of hours to make and the @KyivIndependent pays it's people rather well his childish entitled response says everything yo need to know
Replying to @olya_rudenko
Olga, I think your response says quite a lot about how The Kyiv Independent treats other journalists. My Ukrainian editor used five seconds of your animated map and cropped out your logo. I didn’t know, and I didn’t catch it. That was wrong. He’s apologised, and I take responsibility. But why on earth didn’t you just email me? One message and I would have removed or replaced it immediately. Instead, your team had an entire documentary with 1.3 million views taken down and put a copyright strike against my channel. And now you’re lecturing me about journalistic solidarity? Nobody disputes that your team deserves credit. But there’s a difference between protecting your work and choosing the most damaging option available without even attempting a conversation. Your suggestion that I can simply re-upload the video is particularly insulting. You don’t magically recover 1.3 million views, the audience, the momentum or the damage to a channel by uploading another file. As the editor of a digital publication, you know that. And this isn’t the first time I’ve heard troubling accounts of your organisation’s approach to copyright, including disputes with other journalists over terminology used by Ukrainians themselves to describe Russian attacks on civilians. I’m not naming those journalists, but I think the pattern deserves scrutiny. You claim to champion independent journalism, yet when another journalist makes a correctable mistake, your first response is to have their work removed. What kind of journalistic culture is that? I emailed your organisation seeking a resolution. I received no response, but you’ve found the time to publicly accuse me of lacking respect for journalism. I’ve admitted my mistake. You’ve shown absolutely no willingness to question your own conduct. You had every right to ask for credit. You chose to escalate instead. This could have been fixed with one email. The fact that you still seem unable to recognise that is a far more damning reflection on your editorial judgment than anything you’ve accused me of. Retract the complaint. Remove the strike. And treat independent journalists with the same respect you demand for your own.

Since a few Kyiv Independent readers have asked, I’d like to explain what happened with Caolan Robertson’s video, out of respect for our supporters. Our team found that a video on Caolan’s @CaolanReports YouTube channel included a fragment of an earlier Kyiv Independent video, used without permission and without a request for permission. It wasn’t just footage. It was an animated map that takes our team a lot of work to produce. Importantly, Caolan’s video cropped out our logo from the fragment. Instead of crediting our work, it fully removed the attribution to the Kyiv Independent. That isn’t citation or fair use. Our team member did what is standard when your content is used this way on YouTube: They filed a copyright report. YouTube reviewed the case and removed the video. We follow the same process whenever our work is used without permission, regardless of who the creator is. Worth noting that a removal like this doesn’t kill the creator’s work: The video can simply be re-uploaded without the copyrighted material. So I was surprised that Caolan instead chose to publicly attack the journalists whose work he lifted, and to appeal to journalistic solidarity in a case where he didn’t demonstrate any. Our team has been reporting on the ground in Ukraine since before the full-scale invasion. We’re independent, funded mostly by our readers, and we earn every dime. We’re very proud of our work, from front-line reporting to war crimes investigations. We respect the work of other journalists and expect the same for ours. I wish Caolan all the best in telling his audience about Ukraine. If he ever wants to use our work, he’s welcome to ask, like anyone else. We are all on the same side when it comes to this: We want as many voices as possible telling the world about Ukraine. But being on the same side means respecting and crediting each other’s work. Credit matters because the reporting everyone draws on has to come from somewhere. Thank you.

Getting the basics to survive in a frontline city like Kostiantynivka is a gargantuan task. You must brave the danger of rising to the surface, and hope aid workers aren't killed while trying to reach you. Even when life saving water does arrive, social conflicts can still arise.

I am running the Oryx blog, which this troll references as one of the sources He is deliberately manipulating the data to support his delusional conclusions This is what happens when you start with the conclusion and only later try to fit the reality around it
The “Russian losses increased” narrative is a fabrication, since all evidence available point to the opposite. Vehicle losses have decreased significantly compared to 2025, with armor down by a factor of 5 in average. (source: Oryx) Mediazona’s in-year 2026 personnel-loss count remains 50% below 2025, without a valid explanation. The claim that bodies are harder to retrieve is insufficient: the battlefield and grey zone remain as dangerous as in 2025. Russian courts process MIA-to-KIA cases at high rates, and a body is not required to file for procedure. There has also been no specific additional documented enforcement of obituaries concealment which could explain such a sharp decrease. Regardless, there are absolutely no OSINT data available supporting claims of increased total Russian (or Ukrainian) casualties in 2026. For all we know, it could be inferior, equivalent, higher... The 2026 attrition ratio is more favorable for Russia than in 2025. Progress has slowed but stays within 2024 ranges once the AFU Kursk advances are factored in. 2025 was peculiar: the Kursk pocket collapse and rout destabilized Ukrainian forces and enabled rapid Russian advances front wide for 6 months. All signs indicate that 2026 reflects a more balanced attrition approach after the extremely costly 2024 and the front-wide pressure of 2025 that leveraged the post-Kursk situation, but at high cost. Another myth is: “if attrition worked Russian advances should accelerate”. In attrition warfare theories, the principle is to cause collapse of the adversary to enable decisive gains; not that advances will gradually increase in a linear way, which is subject to both side’s respective effort at a given time. For instance, the weaker side could expend massive resources in a surge attempt, stabilising in apparence the front but collapsing 6 months later. In 2025, Ukrainian forces suffered a sector collapse in the Sudja pocket, which rendered an entire part of the army combat ineffective. Hence, advances ensued. Nevertheless, Ukraine has accelerated mobilization (aggressively) and alternative means to recover, and is nowhere near a collapse of its ground military forces for the time being. Though, with a mobilization ratio currently standing at around 18-20% of the remaining military aged male population, it may be nearing sensitive levels. The point is to separate military objectives: conquest of the 4 oblasts against which Moscow can measure military success, and political objectives: demilitarisation and neutrality of Ukraine, central to the strategic settlement Moscow continues to seek. (Ideally enforced by a favorable regime change) This matters because to achieve its strategic political goal, Russia needs to continue investing in its expensive ballistic and drone programs to collapse the economy at the rear, and make rational choices for expenditures. Losing 4,000 armor a year is not an option anymore. The ground offensive’s primary goal is therefore not military conquest but applying pressure on the entire Ukrainian economic and social apparatus, to support the achievement of the political ambition. Seizing Donbas is a secondary and corollary territorial objective, because the political goal naturally secures the territorial one. Understanding this principle is the basis of analysing this war correctly. Moscow’s objectives in this conflict have not changed, but the strategy adopted has been evolving regularly based on various factors, including setbacks. Kyiv has also been adapting continuously to prevent its success. In 2026, the military situation has somehow improved for Ukraine, but the social and economic ones deteriorated at an accelerated pace. There is however no way to tell whether the Kremlin’s plan will ultimately succeed, even partially. See an earlier analysis in reply to understand attrition warfare performance measurement methods. #UkraineRussiaWar #Strategy #Attrition
