You have tweeted 116k times. No offense but you definitely have time to read for pleasure
If you know of a publisher (or industry person) interested in a ~100k fictional novel following an insane freelance writer covering the Ukraine war, from the safety of America and an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica, with frequent stops in DC (center of power), the literary scene in New York (center of bullshit), as the Wartime Author tries to get a hold of his life, cover a war, find his ex-wife, locate the more famous writer he’s jealous of, all while being chased by spies and private investigators in a bawdy tomb of our times -
Please do get in touch.

I really hate it when people brag about how many books they’ve read in a year. That’s why I stopped counting after I got to seventy-five.

consider this: read as much as you can while enjoying your life. There’s no prize for rushing through these; it’s like rushing through a glorious meal.

FOR LK
In this translation
you will look in vain for a
full-stop, Stops are there,
but hard to find. Keep
searching. Oh look, there is one!
He must have taken
breath. Time can stand still
for the blink of a whale's eye.
Then the whale goes down,
spouting as it dives.

Gerald Murnane deserves a Nobel Prize. lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v41/n07/…

Translators should be eligible for the Nobel Prize. Without them huge swathes of literature would be unavailable to us. Translators are writers too, minus the ego :)

I think people simply used to be more resilient readers: if they saw a word or allusion they didn’t understand they just brushed it off or trusted their gut instinct, & kept going. Whereas now they panic.

My book BACKWARDNESS is still orderable in the USA from Elizabeth Ellen’s SF/LD Books, but a Calamari Archive edition (comprising the full text of the original, supplemented with some new content) is now available worldwide on Amazon, as well as from Asterism.

Jon Fosse translating Gerald Murnane. A book I swore I dreamt up, but it’s real

Reading Vollmann is a great way to remind yourself that your own quiet, personal despair is actually very boring and un-researched compared to the despair of others.
