I would donate a not insignificant amount of money to the charity of his choice if Barack Obama wears a tan suit to the Cheesecake Factory and orders a cheeseburger with dijon mustard.

Whoever this "strategist" is shouldn't be listened to. Ossoff is actually famous for excellence in constituent service, which is definitionally "retail politics." Also you don't get that kind of embrace in the Black community in Georgia if you're a "robot." Ossoff's ties are deep

Teresa Wright and Hollywood’s Unusual Contract Celebrating Teresa Wright, #BOTD 10/27/1918—one of the most breathtakingly honest actresses ever filmed. So talented that she earned Academy Award nominations for her first three films, winning for her second, Mrs. Miniver. She gave us such gems as The Little Foxes, The Best Years of Our Lives, Shadow of a Doubt, Mrs. Miniver, and The Pride of the Yankees, along with numerous other film, stage, and television roles. A serious actress, Wright had a unique—and rather humorous—clause in her contract that forbade the studios from taking “cheesecake” photographs of her. It stipulated: “She shall not be required to pose for photographs in a bathing suit unless she is in the water. Neither may she be photographed running on the beach with her hair flying in the wind. Nor may she pose in any of the following situations: In shorts, playing with a cocker spaniel; digging in a garden; whipping up a meal; attired in firecrackers and holding skyrockets for the Fourth of July; looking insinuatingly at a turkey for Thanksgiving; wearing a bunny cap with long ears for Easter; twinkling on prop snow in a skiing outfit while a fan blows her scarf; assuming an athletic stance while pretending to hit something with a bow and arrow.” And while she was actress of uncommon grace, dignity, and quiet brilliance, she did pose for Hurrell in this rather glamorous portrait......

John Carpenter's The Fog - an atmospheric chiller that's more about tension than scares. A well-cast ensemble gives credibility to this old-fashioned ghost story. It has fine cinematography by Dean Cundey & a quietly haunting score from Carpenter. A subtle slice of genre cinema.

Rest in peace to an early crush, Susan Saint James. I think the first thing I saw her in was the sequel to The Trouble with Angels. She was 21 playing a high school girl so the same year (‘68) was an easy transition to a more adult role on The Name of The Game.

It’s easy to take Jane Austen for granted because we live in the world that she created. We struggle to see how groundbreaking and innovative her novels are because they set the template for all modern fiction. Pride & Prejudice, to cite the most obvious example, did more than invent a genre. Anyone who now writes a story in which two people fall in love is either inspired by her or reacting against her. She’s like Tolkien in that sense. But she did much more than that. She perfected a method of narration known as “free indirect discourse” that’s now used by virtually every writer. You have only to read the novels of pre-Austen writers to see what a tremendous difference she made through her use of this technique. Literary scholar John Mullan argues that Emma launched a revolution in form & technique that’s comparable to the innovations of Joyce and Proust. It is the favorite novel of Susanna Clarke and of Katherine Rundell, who calls it “a book that shows as much of the sweep of the human heart, of fear, love, morality, untruth, foolery and triumph as a Shakespearean drama.” It is also, arguably, the novel that invented the mystery genre, having what J. K. Rowling has called the biggest twist in literature. You don’t notice the greatness of Austen for the same reason a fish doesn’t know that it lives in water.
I've read Pride and Prejudice and to this day I have no idea what the hell people see in it. It's not a bad book but I don't see it as being much beyond a glorified romcom. Pointing out foibles? Yeah, every half-decent writer does that. So what is Austen so good at? Liz Bennet hates her mother and thinks her father, while well meaning, is an idiot (Austen doesn't seem to consider there to be anything wrong with any of that). Then there's Mr. Collins the clergyman whom the girls dislike despite his status in life. Okay, no one's entitled to someone else's romantic love but what great insights does the book contain on that? What about any of this is supposed to be so impressive? Dickens would handle a failed courtship more efficiently and entertainingly. Just compare with Mr. Stryver's attempt at marrying Lucie Manette in A Tale of Two Cities.

lmao the plan is already in motion, my friend. And it's working. AES won't let Piker near him with a ten foot pole. Other Democrats have taken note. By 2028--or 2027 really--Democrats with any ounce of acumen will pay you no mind. The era of sabotage is coming to an end.

Lmfao, you don't have enough support or political capital to lop us off. You and people like Neera are swiftly becoming irrelevant. The harder you try to push us out, the harder we will push you down. We are done being ignored and having our votes taken for granted.

There is a two step process to winning every argument: 1) be right, 2) know why you're right. Everything beyond that is an exercise in sophistry and intellectual dishonesty.
