Thank you, Ekurhuleni!
With 100% of the votes declared, ActionSA finishes with 18.5% of the vote, welcoming 40 councillors (up from 15 in 2021).
A massive 88% of the voting districs the ANC lost in this election went to ActionSA, and we won 17 wards outright in this election (0 in 2021).

The result yielded in this LGE is testament that God saw our hearts and heard our prayers and did exceedingly, abundantly and more than we could ever ask, think or imagine. My heart is full.
As we prepare for the next few days of crucial decision-making and planning, we trust that we will retain your support as we continue to build towards the next leg of the race.

In the end, the writing is on the wall—properly displayed in percentages.
It begs the obvious question: what is it about YOU that produced this performance? Why is it that you have lost almost half of your vote share? Yes, YOU!
As I have said before, go argue with the wall.
As for me, I did abstain. A deliberate, conscientious abstention.
The right to abstain is not limited to parliament or council sessions. It is very much constitutional, and available to all citizens—especially those who DO register to vote!
That our voter registration increases by millions every time is a sign of genuine interest. When they do not show up to vote, after turning out to register, they may very well be refusing to choose between different versions of failure!
Voting MUST NEVER be a conscription; it is a right that comes with responsibility—one that can’t be deployed without conscience.
Above all, NO ONE is entitled to people's votes. VOTES are earned, just like respect. To say otherwise is the gospel according to dictators.
How else can we explain that Mandela campaigned in 1994 and lost both KZN and Western Cape, yet Mbeki won both 10 years later? They earned the votes through results on the ground by improving the living standards of our people. They were NOT ENTITLED to them!
Those who protest by deliberately not voting or deliberately spoiling their vote are exercising as sacred a right as the right to vote! A true revolutionary should know that, and would listen to them, for they too have registered a view!
It is in line with this spirit—the letter of which is in the Constitution, that 'every citizen is free to make political choices'—that Ronnie Kasrils, alongside Barney Pityana and others, in 2014 called on people to protest by spoiling their vote.
I’m sure you’ll agree, these are stalwarts of the anti-apartheid movement. They understood that no one—NOT even their own comrades—is ENTITLED to votes.
But first, go to the wall, brother. There, the measure of your weight is fully determined."

Former EFF spokesperson Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has issued a lengthy response to EFF President Julius Malema following Malema’s criticism of his decision not to vote in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Malema had publicly questioned Ndlozi’s decision to abstain, describing it as abnormal and counter-revolutionary.
Now Ndlozi has turned the conversation towards Malema’s leadership and the EFF’s declining electoral support.

🗣️ “In the end, the writing is on the wall—properly displayed in percentages.”
He directly challenges Malema to account for the party’s election performance, asking why its vote share has fallen so substantially.
𝗘𝗙𝗙 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧
🔴 2021: 10.3%
🔴 2026: Approximately 6.2%
📉 Decline: 4.1 percentage points, or roughly 40% of its previous vote share.
𝗢𝗡 𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗩𝗢𝗧𝗘
Ndlozi insists that his abstention was intentional and based on conscience.
He argues that voting is a constitutional right, not an obligation that political leaders can impose on citizens.
He says registered voters who deliberately stay away from polling stations may be expressing dissatisfaction with the political choices available to them.
According to Ndlozi, refusing to vote can itself communicate a political message.
𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗩𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗦
Ndlozi argues that political parties must earn electoral support through their performance rather than demand loyalty from voters.
He describes the belief that leaders are entitled to people’s votes as authoritarian.
𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗔 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗞𝗜 𝗘𝗫𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘
Ndlozi points to the ANC’s electoral history, arguing that Nelson Mandela’s ANC failed to win KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape in 1994, while Thabo Mbeki’s ANC won both provinces in 2004.
He uses this comparison to argue that political parties can gain support through their record in government rather than relying on historical loyalty.
𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗘 𝗞𝗔𝗦𝗥𝗜𝗟𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗩𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚
Ndlozi also refers to the 2014 protest campaign associated with anti-apartheid activist Ronnie Kasrils and other prominent figures.
He argues that deliberately spoiling a ballot or abstaining can be a legitimate expression of political dissatisfaction.
𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗠𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗠𝗔
Ndlozi ends his response by directing Malema back to the election results, arguing that the percentages themselves provide the measure of the party’s performance.
🔥 The exchange highlights a disagreement between the former EFF colleagues over voter participation, political accountability and the meaning of the party’s electoral decline.
