Keep squeezing pubs and restaurants with higher costs and taxes, and more will close Fewer businesses. Fewer jobs. Less revenue for HMRC and the Treasury You can't tax businesses that no longer exist It's basic economics
🚨JUST IN: Labour Chancellor set to hike price of a pint in upcoming budget despite struggling pubs. • Chancellor John Healey is expected to raise alcohol duty in Wednesday’s Budget, adding an extra 2p to the price of a pint. • Under the plan, duty on every pint would rise in line with 3.9 per cent RPI inflation, taking the tax from 50p to 52p. • A bottle of wine is expected to rise by between 10p and 12p depending on its strength, while a bottle of 37.5 per cent gin would go up by 35p. • The Wine and Spirit Trade Association said the government should be supporting the drinks sector rather than squeezing it further during a cost of living crisis. • The group warned that repeated alcohol tax increases have consistently failed to raise revenue.

British brewers already pay 12 times the beer duty of Germany and Spain. Piling another 2p on a pint on top of higher National Insurance is just going to lead to fewer pubs, fewer jobs and lower tax receipts.

Looks like this budget is going to put the final nails in hospitality’s coffin. Way to show you hate an industry without saying it. We ask for help and we’re given… wage rises, tax rises, duty rises. At least the gherkin on your burger will be cheaper eh 🤯

Any one with a brain would raise the personal allowance threshold rather than pass the cost to business but we are dealing with successive retarded governments.

An increase to £13.20p/h equates to a minimum wage of £27,456, based on a 40 hour week. Once you factor in employers NI and basic pension contributions, the MINIMUM cost to hire a 21 year old for a company would be £31,461. This is before you factor in any overarching business costs like office space, laptops, phone, software, training, support staff, vehicles etc. This is going to be devastating to SME's who cant put together a simple 12 month budget without the goalposts being moved & their margins squeezed. It'll also be catastrophic to youngsters opportunities because businesses will simply not be able to afford to hire them. What's also incredible is that anything above £50,270 is seen as 'high earnings' in the UK and is taxed at 40%! We are governed by financially and economically illiterate morons. This will not end well.

That's funny because at my last strategy meeting with my accountant, they informed me I must use HMRC-recognised Making Tax Digital compatible software, creating an oligopoly for firms like Xero. I must now also report my company's income every three months rather than once a year, as well as a final report at year end. So I now have to pay for a Xero subscription. And pay my accountant more for the increased submissions. And fuck about with reconciling every three months, rather than once a year. For HMRC to end up with the same amount of income from me as before. Fuck off. Just fuck off. Fuck off all the way back to Yorkshire, then fuck off some more.
British firms are fed up with pointless paperwork and form-filling. Today we are cutting unnecessary bureaucracy, reducing costs and giving businesses the breathing space they need to invest, innovate and create good jobs.

Considering my pub’s rateable value was changed from £18.5k to £73.5k by @UKLabour last year we’re a long way from this being of any benefit whatsoever!! God know who this will actually help. We need to #CutVAT #vatstheproblem
Budget latest: Thousands of high-street shops, cafes, pubs and hairdressers will no longer have to pay business rates as a result of tax changes to be announced on Oct 28. thetimes.com/article/f5cc0c6…

🚨 Labour came to power warning of a £22bn black hole. Since then they have: ❌ Put taxes up by around £70bn ❌ Borrowed another £310bn And now, after taking more of your money AND borrowing hundreds of billions more… …there is apparently another £35bn black hole. At what point do we admit the problem isn’t that Government doesn’t have enough money? It’s that Government cannot control its spending. You cannot tax your way to growth. You cannot borrow your way out of overspending. And taxpayers cannot keep being handed the bill. Enough.

The cat is out of the bag. 800+ hotels, pubs and restaurants. Some of the biggest names in British hospitality. All the trade bodies. All saying the same thing. Cut VAT in line with Europe. 20% VAT is holding British hospitality back. @AndyBurnham has previously backed VAT in line with Europe. Now he has the opportunity to deliver it. This isn’t about a handout. It’s about giving hospitality the tax environment to grow, employ and invest. If you work in hospitality, don’t sit this one out. Share this. Tag your MP. Make them choose a side. #VATsTheProblem #CutVAT #Hospitality #VatinlinewithEurope Hundreds of hotels, pubs and restaurants urge Burnham to slash VAT telegraph.co.uk/gift/0acc356…

The Government can’t have its cake and eat it. You cannot point to Europe to justify a new tourism tax while conveniently ignoring how Europe taxes hospitality. A tourism tax of up to 5% on top of 20% VAT means the headline tax burden could effectively reach 25%. Yes Europe has tourism taxes, but Europe also recognises the economic value of hospitality and tourism with substantially lower VAT rates. If we want European-style tourism taxes then give us European-style VAT. Stop picking the bits of Europe that raise taxes while ignoring the bits that help hospitality grow. #VATinlinewithEurope #VATsTheProblem #Hospitality #Tourism #cutvat

At what point does a VAT cut become meaningless @andyjlennox? Rates through the roof, utility bills up again, Employment tax means we can't hire. So, at what point does a VAT cut just offset all the costs this heartless government have piled on for 2 years? Treading water again!
