1/ EXCLUSIVE: at @RFERL we obtained photos of a Russian flotilla in Tartus port, taken early September. This is the 1st instance in months of a Russian military ship being docked there, month after the announcement that Russia’s bases in Syria would be 'transferred' to Damascus.
UPDATE: 🇷🇺🇸🇾 After around two months of absence, Russia is back in the Mediterranean, with a Russian naval convoy now arriving at Tartus, Syria. Our team at @SONARROW_OSINT has been tracking the convoy since August 25. The four Russian vessels have travelled from the Atlantic into the Mediterranean and across the region before reaching the Syrian coast. The SPARTA Ro-Ro cargo ship and AKADEMIK PASHIN replenishment oiler are now docked at Tartus. The SPARTA appears to have already unloaded its cargo. The ADMIRAL LEVCHENKO Udaloy-class destroyer and GENERAL SKOBELEV tanker are not currently inside the port. They may be operating offshore, similar to how the ADMIRAL FLOTA KASATONOV has operated around Tartus in recent months. What exactly was delivered to Tartus remains unclear, but the return of a Russian convoy to the Syrian port after months away is significant. So the key questions remain: What did SPARTA bring to Syria, and how long will the Russian vessels remain at Tartus?

A community note for the Pentagon spokesman:
Publishing highly classified assessments from the Secretary’s orders book is a crime. It’s a betrayal of the force. And much of what they’re publishing is inaccurate. Of course, we demand candid military advice. Non-concurs are standard. The Secretary sees them constantly. That’s how you run a real military. We are in great shape around the world. This story isn’t about readiness. It’s TDS and PDS — they hate President Trump and Secretary Hegseth more than they love America.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
While leaking classified material is illegal for government employees, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in New York Times Co. v. United States (1971) that the First Amendment protects the press's right to publish classified information of public interest. nytimes.com/2016/06/30/ins…

The Pentagon has placed several conservative military veterans with large social media followings in civilian roles within the department, according to The Washington Post, which reviewed Pentagon records and spoke with people familiar with the assignments. Among those identified are retired Air Force Col. Rob Maness (@RobManess) and retired Army Col. Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) , both of whom have active government email accounts and are assigned to the office of Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Anthony Tata. Retired Army Col. Thomas Anderson, who writes online as @CynicalPublius, was also previously listed in the office. The Post reports that the individuals have been serving as either special government employees or highly qualified experts. The precise duties, compensation and start dates for the assignments have not been disclosed. The assignments appear to intersect with several Pentagon initiatives focused on military education and personnel policy. Maness, Schlichter and Anderson participated in a Senior Service College Task Force review at the Army War College in May. The task force was established to examine what Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described as “toxic” or “woke” ideology at senior service colleges. The disclosure is notable because the three have maintained significant public profiles as commentators and, in several cases, have publicly supported Hegseth's policies. The Post also reports that some of their government affiliations were not disclosed in their recent public commentary. Separately, conservative influencer Jennica Pounds, who writes as DataRepublican (@DataRepublican), disclosed that she became a Defense Department special government employee in July after previously holding a journalist credential in Hegseth's Pentagon press corps. The Pentagon has declined to publicly identify the roles or confirm whether the individuals are receiving taxpayer-funded compensation. Thus far, the available reporting establishes their government affiliations but does not establish that they were hired specifically to promote partisan messaging or that their social-media activity is being directed by the Pentagon. ❗️Exilenova+ satellite analysis of the August 12 Novorossiysk strike shows extensive damage at three key sites: the NKHP grain and fuel-oil terminals, Russia’s naval base and the Sheskharis oil-export terminal. Admiral Makarov and Admiral Essen were likely hit near their Kalibr launchers, while a minesweeper, patrol ship, intelligence ship and experimental vessel also appear damaged. NKHP handles around 12% of Russian grain exports, while Sheskharis suffered hits on its main tanker berths. #Ukraine

👀This is a significant development if thats what is happening!
🚨 HAPPENING NOW — 1st-ever US Coast Guard-Philippine Coast Guard joint patrol challenging PRC's exclusion zone at Scarborough Shoal 🇺🇸🇵🇭 For what appears to be the 1st time, a @USCG cutter is operating directly alongside the @coastguardph in a joint presence operation challenging Beijing's exclusion zone around #ScarboroughShoal (Bajo de Masinloc). 🛰️ Automatic Identification System tracking data from @StarboardIntel shows the USCG cutter Midgett sortieing from Manila Bay on 28 May alongside PCG cutter BRP Melchora Aquino & taking station on the western approaches to the shoal starting yesterday, 29 May and holding roughly 35-40 nm out. 🇵🇭 Also visible in the operation are PCG patrol vessel BRP Cabra & Bureau of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources BRP Datu Pagbuaya (now returning to Manila Bay, followed closely by CCG 21563). History suggests others may also be involved but operating "AIS-dark". 🇨🇳 Arrayed against them is a layered Chinese paramilitary cordon: at least 9 CCG cutters are visible on AIS forming an outer picket line 20-40nm from the shoal, while at least 7 large militia vessels are visible forming an inner cordon 5-17nm out. 🇨🇳 Past experience strongly suggests PLA Navy vessels (not visible on AIS) are also in the area, but will likely keep their distance to ensure no repeats of the disastrous 11 August 2025 "friendly fire" collision near Scarborough. 🤝 This direct involvement by the USCG in a Philippine challenge to China's maritime aggression inside the West Philippine Sea is a significant step forward for the alliance. 🎩 Hat-tip: thanks to friend-of-SeaLight @supbrow for tipping this to @GordianKnotRay!

Many might have noticed that I’ve stopped posting frontline updates. This is because our team - Frontelligence Insight, has been working privately to provide key investigative and analytical support to some policy and decision makers. That said, a major update on the internal affairs of the Russian military is coming soon

27 MAY 2026 @CopernicusEU #Sentinel2 🛰️📷 Clear day of Persian Gulf today 😎 1324 total vessels detected 124 correlated to an AIS signal 476 vessels +150m, detected 14 correlated to an AIS signal GPS spoofing causes AIS locations to be inaccurate and that effects correlation with vessel detections in satellite imagery. Any AI vessel detection tool also has false positives and false negatives. That cannot be avoided. So be careful about stats that just count things. That's easy. Understand the difference between Ship Detection vs Ship Identification. They are not the same. Be sure to know how a ship is ID'd from the available data, especially from day to day. 26 MAY 2026 @CopernicusEU #Sentinel2🛰️📷 Clear day over the Gulf of Oman and also the Northern Persian Gulf 😎 The anchorage off Chabahar has 32 vessels over 150m anchored, including 14 tankers. No ships at the terminals at Kharg Island, but 24 tankers in the anchorage. That's 38 tankers *NOT* transporting 🇮🇷 crude oil 🛢️to the Malaysian EOPL for Teapot Refineries in 🇨🇳. That's a capacity of around 75 million barrels worth about $7 billion, *NOT* funding the IRGC.
