In many ways, Passaic Co. voting for Trump makes perfect sense It is composed of all of the groups that shifted the most to the GOP in '24: - Very large Hispanic Pop. - Largest Palestinian diaspora in U.S. - Growing Orthodox Jewish Pop. - Rich blue-collar White pop. in suburbs
Passaic County is so weird..... they just do their thing.

The MA, NH & RI primaries are coming up, and while there will be some drama in Senate/Gov races, the New England House delegation will almost entirely Dem. This is a historical reversal, as even in the worst possible scenario (1936), Rs ran even with Dems in New England. While Progressives have a strong history in MN & WI, in MI…they don’t. In ‘36, as Progressives romped in MN & WI and Rs were held to a mere 88 seats nationwide, Rs maintained a 9-8 advantage in the MI delegation, with Dems strongest in Detroit & the UP. Wow I really dodged a bullet here
After a significant polling miss, TSPI says it took respondents who had already picked Jay Collins and switched them to James Fishback because his number in their data "did not align with our read of the race."

America at 250, Part V - July ‘26 House Predictions These are NOT safe/likely/lean/tilt ratings. They’re based on the predicted vote shares the winning party will receive. Based on a GCB of Dem +5.5, Dems are set to gain only modestly in a sort of “reverse” ‘22 scenario. This is largely due to GOP gains from mid-decade redistricting. BUT, remember that many seats don’t become truly competitive until closer to Election Day, so definitely keep an eye on those light pink/blue seats, or even the slightly darker ones, which could easily turn into sleepers. As usual, a like, repost and/or follow is always appreciated! 🥹 Happy 4th everyone and a Happy 250th Birthday to the USA!! 🇺🇸 🎆💙🎉 Mappers: @MadLibHatter @bluearrowMaps @SageOfTime1 @Thorongil16 @DemHackMaps @JMilesColeman @RJ_maps @cinyc9 @redwoodcntymaps @NinetyDegreeZ @HugeGuilfordCo @tencor_7144 @josh_metcalf @nnjpolitics @Leonz0_o @ModRightMaps
America at 250, Part IV - 200 Years In Coinciding with Jimmy Carter’s narrow defeat of Gerald Ford, ‘76 marked the last time to date that either party held a 2/3 House majority. Dems achieved this by doing well in the cities, while also maintaining a strong grip on the South - despite significant GOP gains over the preceding decade. Claire McCaskill’s primary meddling strategy paid off in full after Todd Akin’s “legitimate rape” gaffe. McCaskill won 6/8 House seats in MO, including some in solid red territory, despite Obama only winning the St. Louis 1st & KC 5th CDs. Mappers: @MadLibHatter @bluearrowMaps @SageOfTime1 @Thorongil16 @DemHackMaps @JMilesColeman @RJ_maps @cinyc9 @redwoodcntymaps @NinetyDegreeZ @HugeGuilfordCo @tencor_7144 @josh_metcalf @nnjpolitics @Leonz0_o @ModRightMaps
This is actually an often-employed tactic for both sides. One of the more infamous examples was in ‘12, where Sen Claire McCaskill (D-MO) ran ads attacking Rep Todd Akin. This helped him win the R primary, then implode in the general with his notorious “legitimate rape” comment.

Happy belated birthday to former Rep Roscoe Bartlett, who turned 100 on 6/3!! After an unsuccessful House run in ‘82, Bartlett won his seat (MD-06) in ‘92 when incumbent Beverly Byron was defeated by a more liberal Dem in the primary. Bartlett served until his defeat in ‘12. The 1922 House elections in NY were a watershed year on making Dems the party of urban voters. After being at a low point after Harding’s 1920 landslide, Dems gained a whopping 13(!) seats in NY (>70 nationwide) with 12 coming from NYC (the other from Rochester). Mappers: @MadLibHatter @bluearrowMaps @SageOfTime1 @Thorongil16 @DemHackMaps @JMilesColeman @RJ_maps @cinyc9 @redwoodcntymaps @NinetyDegreeZ @HugeGuilfordCo @tencor_7144 @josh_metcalf @nnjpolitics @Leonz0_o @ModRightMaps @admcrlsn @RyanGirdusky
Hadn’t done a PA map in a while, so I give you the 1922 PA US House elections!! The ‘22 elections saw Dems net 5 seats in PA as they gained >70 nationwide in Warren Harding’s midterm. While Rs maintained their hold on Philly & Pittsburgh, Dems made progress in eastern PA overall. In his ‘20 reelection, John Cornyn won 24/36 House seats with 53%. Ken Paxton won 21 seats with 50.5% in his ‘18 AG reelection. The map also shows Dem deterioration in South TX and cracks in the GOP gerrymander in the suburbs. Of course, things changed in ‘22-‘24… Mappers: @MadLibHatter @bluearrowMaps @SageOfTime1 @Thorongil16 @DemHackMaps @JMilesColeman @RJ_maps @cinyc9 @redwoodcntymaps @NinetyDegreeZ @HugeGuilfordCo @tencor_7144 @josh_metcalf @nnjpolitics @Leonz0_o @Midwest_Mapping @AvgTXPriv @TXFirst45 @RealTXPolitics @Red_Texas_22
Well, it seems TX AG Ken Paxton has earned the coveted Trump endorsement, so let’s revisit Paxton’s & John Cornyn’s weakest performances to gauge where they might land. Cornyn’s weakest came in ‘20, winning by 10% while Trump won by 5.5%. Paxton’s was in ‘18, winning by 3.5% while Cruz won reelection by 2.5%. We can conclude that Cornyn does outperform the top of the ticket more than Paxton, but we should also consider environment, opponents and that Paxton has built up more baggage since then. Should be an interesting runoff…

With Trump flipping the Silver State and GOP momentum building, Republicans are eyeing a challenge to the Democrat-drawn congressional maps that were engineered to prop up their incumbents. The old gerrymander no longer matches political reality.
