A coalition consisting of @PSSAR, MP @ElizabethMay, @IndJewishVoices, @wearehumaniti and Dr. Aaron Shafer from Trent University held a press conference calling out the Canadian government for its lack of action in bringing Palestinian students accepted into Canadian universities into Canada.
These students have already been accepted to prestigious Canadian universities and have been waiting for more than 2 years to begin their studies, yet no action has been taken to issue them their needed visas.

Other countries approve visas and enable evacuations of students.
Why are @GAC_Corporate & @CitImmCanada seemingly so inept?

Over 200 Jewish Canadians have signed our open letter calling on Immigration Minister Lena Diab and the Government of Canada to urgently facilitate the evacuation of Palestinian students in Gaza who have already been admitted to Canadian universities and colleges.
These students have secured admission, scholarships, and opportunities to continue their education. What many cannot secure on their own is a safe way out of Gaza and a workable path through Canada’s visa process.
Palestinian students should not be treated as a threat to Jewish safety simply because of their nationality.
Canada has the ability to give these students a path out of genocide and back into classrooms. It must do so.

Currently, 130 students from Gaza who have been accepted to study in graduate programs in Canada are still in limbo. Some have been waiting years for a study visa.

Remove Minister Diab from office. The @PSSAR students have been waiting for more than 2 years for a response from Minister Diab and the IRCC. But have been left with complete silence. When will these students be able to complete their education? Unacceptable behaviour. @LenaMetlegeDiab removeministerdiab.com/

Last week MP @JennyKwanBC questioned the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship - @LenaMetlegeDiab. One of the issues raised was demanding that the processing be expedited for 136 postgraduate Palestinian students from Gaza on full scholarships to 26 Canadian universities. In response, Minister Diab said that all these applications will be processed in the next 10 days. And we should all be watching closely to make sure the Minister follows through on this.

Students from Gaza have been waiting over two years to continue their studies at Canadian universities. What the Minister won't tell you - Canada could admit these students today.
This is Canada's loss. This is Canada's shame!

"These students are not asking for a shortcut; they are asking for an answer. In a country governed by the rule of law, that should not be too much to expect."
Canada is putting Palestinian grad students in unfair immigration limbo 👇

My op-ed in today's @globeandmail, decrying the approach (or more to the point, the lack thereof) that the Canadian government has taken with respect to processing visa applications for highly qualified Palestinian graduate students who have been admitted to university programs across the country.
"... it is difficult to come up with any explanation for the double standards other than how it feels: racism. It has to be said, and it has to be addressed. On one side are applicants who receive clear outcomes; on the other are those whose files are allowed to languish until their opportunities simply expire. And time after time, those on that other side are Palestinians."
Minister @LenaMetlegeDiab, this must change.

CMPAC joined partner organizations to call on Minister @LenaMetlegeDiab to address the clear double standard in Canada’s treatment of Palestinian students.
Despite having already secured acceptance into Canadian universities, #Palestinian students continue to face prolonged delays and silence; treatment that stands in stark contrast to how student applicants from other regions of the world have been processed. This disparity raises serious concerns about discrimination within Canada’s immigration system. #cdnpoli
Organizations represented at the press conference:
CMPAC, @PSSAR , @justiceforallcn , @SeanTucker16 from the University of Regina, and Bruce Mabley, Principal Researcher with @GroupPapineau.
