After the hearing, @PeterFrumhoff, former chief climate scientist at @UCSUSA, told ExxonKnews that the hacker's sentencing is hopefully “a stepping stone, not a final moment” of accountability for the attack against key players in the #ExxonKnew movement. exxonknews.org/p/exxonknew-h…

"Now more than ever, scientists, advocates and our policymakers must fight back against scare tactics, delay maneuvers, and other abuses of power by the fossil fuel industry. A safer, healthier & more just future is at stake."

ALT A Manhattan judge will issue a sentence today for Aviram Azari, a self-described “hacker for hire” who pleaded guilty in what is known as the “Dark Basin” cyberattack. The large-scale spear phishing venture targeted individuals at the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and other public interest organizations working to expose concerted efforts by ExxonMobil and other fossil fuel industry interests to spread disinformation about climate science and prevent climate action.

I think this is a good way to evaluate a company’s claims to be on board vis a vis the climate: “At a minimum, the company must have no new commitments to initiate new fossil fuel exploration, production or refining.” washingtonpost.com/climate-e…

Compiled by @VatanHuzeir, the latest cache of internal documents describing Big Oil's concealed knowledge of global warming is a gold mine.
One bombshell is a confidential @Shell scenario report from 1989 which imagined two futures: SUSTAINABLE WORLD and GLOBAL MERCANTILISM 🧵

Supposedly the White House is close to approving a vast new oil complex--the #WillowProject --in Alaska.
One hopes that they'll rethink: it's a world-class carbon bomb, and base voters young and old just hate it.

Good news and bad news here. Global CO2 pollution rose only 1% last year, pushed by big gains in clean energy. Bad news is we need carbon pollution not to just slow its rise, but to FALL.

BREAKING: New study in Nature Climate Change shows that academic research funded by fossil fuel companies is biased.
Biased against renewables and toward promotion of fossil gas.
Given Big Carbon's big money in academia, this should raise alarm bells.
