We are living proof that Eby will NOT go to the wall for private property rights. We are still fighting him in court over 2 years later, for taking individual citizens property rights, in favour of international hotel chains. He never even SPOKE to us. Now his words "We have to go to the wall to defend those private properties....People's homes and businesses are not bargaining chips” are hollow. We are here David, come talk to us, show us what you mean. Actions speak louder than words. @Dave_Eby @KahlonRav @christineeboyle @bcndp @Adam_Stirling @CBCNews @CityOfVictoria @timescolonist @gavindew

It's happening! We get to plead our case in court. Next week, despite an attempt by the @bcndp to block our case, the judge has granted us our hearing. June 17 - 21 in Victoria BC. Orion shares an update & ask for those who want to contribute to the cause. youtube.com/watch?v=3WgoDVnc…

Today we head to court to witness the @bcndp seek an adjournment of our case - trying to starve us out instead of allowing us our actual day in court. Cowardly tactic. If they believed they were right they wouldn't be stalling like this. A delay will cause bankruptcies for many small business owners. The BC NDP used to stand for the people, now they stand with multinational corporations against the people. @Dave_Eby @KahlonRav proving to be elitist and out of touch politicians. Hoping for justice to prevail today. @Adam_Stirling @CBCNews @KirkpatrickWVC @JohnRustad4BC @AzimAJiwani @BruceBanman @KevinFalcon

3 days before May 1st, when the @bcndp imposed legislation dictated by the hotel industry wipes out mom & pop owned, legit vacation rentals by owner, the hotels jump online to start listing on the platforms. Just $1,129 per night! @Dave_Eby #followthemoney

David Eby bragging about thousands(?) of new hotel units being built in major cities on land that otherwise could have been sold and used to build housing is so perfectly on the nose when it comes to unintended policy consequences that I wonder if he's trolling... #bcpoli

After 1000's of letters & calls to MLA's, Housing Ministry, Municipal officials, presentations to correct the inaccurate & biased data the Government used to form this legislation, countless meetings & requests for fair consultation unanswered. We tried to be heard.

We want projects like this to continue to happen every single year, but we can’t do that with the NDP removing grandfathered rights for business that has been running successfully for years.

Vancouver and BC are about to get a HARD lesson in unintended consequences if this Short Term rental bill goes through as written because it includes a critical change that few have noticed
This change will go into Law on May 1st.
At that stage, BC will have defined Short term rentals as 90 days and levied a death knell to the Movie & Tech industries, eliminated temporary housing for insurance companies in the event of fires & floods and rendered new immigrants or summer students unable to find accommodation prior to arrival in Vancouver.
I would suggest that @Dave_Eby outline how he expects people in the following categories to live in a province where the minimum rental term in defined in law as 90 days at a time.
Temporary workers such as those in the Movie industry or those on temporary placement in multinationals like the tech industry. The Circe du Soleil rent apartments for hundreds of staff when they visit every second year on a 3 month term. Deadpool brought in over a thousand staff for 10 weeks of filming in 2020.
New immigrants (Mostly tech workers) who rent a place for a month or two while they search for a permanent home. They cannot secure a property over Craiglist / traditional markets because of the risk of scammers so Short Term platforms act as a trusted custodian for those who cannot view a property but still need to pay upfront to secure it.
People who have had a fire, flood or are undertaking a renovation project and need to vacate their homes for repairs. This is a massive category of demand. All locals, all in need of shorter but not short term accommodation.
Vancouver snowbird emigrants who used to maintain a property here & have rented it due to the EHT, now rent monthly to come home in the summers.
There are other categories, like retirees visiting families for an extended term, but these segments are the main ones making up 80% of the demand. None of them are tourist type requirements & removing the option would create hardship for locals that are already struggling or damage the economy. I fear it would prevent the movie industry from considering Vancouver at all as a viable location if they cannot house staff.
Vancouver is not a small provincial city, the requirements of our population are different, & Vancouver needs some level of temporary accommodation.
The only winners here will be the hotels who already capitalized on the prior restrictions by doubling prices.
Those prices are not manageable for extended terms on months on end, in particular for families who need 2 or 3 rooms. A summer two month rental in the Burrard, a 3 star hotel would be priced at $21,000 right now. What will it be when it has to cater for every temporary accomodation need after these regulations go into play?

Journalists need to get this right. You are not seeing news because the Government of Canada has forced Meta into this position. Meanwhile all political parties are advertising heavily on Meta. So all we get now is propaganda. Government should NOT be advertising on Meta now.

Just mentioned with @PropertyRtsBC: Victoria council will consider a motion this Thursday requesting the city write to the province to delay implementation of short term rental regulations until after the peak 2024 tourism season #yyj

To be clear the BC United are only advocating for legally zoned airbnbs. Something the media and public have a hard time understanding. Holiday homes and tourism zones that were built with the mixed use zoning that allows owners to rent out their units short term (under 90 days)
