Many patients who took loans or mortgaged their property to pay for treatment will now carry a lighter burden. I urge every pharma company to complete this process quickly and transparently. Stockists, chemists and hospitals must pass on the full benefit to patients in need at the earliest. Karnataka's Health Department @DHFWKA will continue to closely monitor the prices of medicines for critical illnesses such as cancer, heart and kidney diseases. Affordable treatment is the right of every person in need, and we will keep working to make it a reality for every family.

🚨ASSAM: GHANAKANTA GOGOI’S ALLEGED CRIMINAL HISTORY SPANS ASSAM, ARUNACHAL AND NAGALAND; FIREARMS TRAINING UNDER PROBE; 👉 Accused Ghanakanta Gogoi, who allegedly shot dead five people and injured another at Guwahati’s Hotel Bilas Inn on October 26, 2026, reportedly has a history of alleged criminal activities and cases spanning Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. 👉 Gogoi hails from Lebangkula village in Joypur, Naharkatia, Dibrugarh district, Assam. 👉 Reports suggest he began working as a middleman in Dibrugarh before moving to Arunachal Pradesh, where he allegedly impersonated a senior police officer to commit fraud and faced several criminal cases. 👉 He subsequently moved to Nagaland, where he reportedly spent around three years. 👉 During his stay, he allegedly spent 10 days in custody in Wokha district in connection with a car theft case. 👉 Reports further suggest that Gogoi married another woman while in Nagaland and obtained a licensed firearm in his name. 👉 He allegedly received firearms training in the state and became proficient in handling weapons, including a .32-calibre pistol. 👉 Gogoi is also alleged to have abandoned his first wife and daughter in Joypur, Naharkatia, before moving away from Assam. 👉 He later settled in Guwahati with his family, reportedly living there for 12–13 years while continuing to visit his parental home. 👉 In 2024, a case was reportedly registered against him at Pulibor Police Station in Jorhat over a house-purchase dispute. 👉 Gogoi allegedly signed an agreement to buy a property but failed to pay the owner, instead brandishing a firearm, assaulting people and threatening to kill the owner. 👉 The reports identify Jitu Khan and Madhurya Goswami as complainants in the case and allege that Gogoi was released within an hour. 👉 Gogoi has also been accused of securing loans from banks and financial institutions using allegedly forged residential addresses, including addresses at Tekelachiring Gaon and Borpathar Konwar Gaon near Dibrugarh University. 👉 Financial agents reportedly visited the address listed on his Aadhaar card but were unable to locate him. 👉 In another alleged incident, Gogoi hired an excavator from a Lakhimpur resident identified as Saddam Hussain and reportedly kept it in a remote area of Arunachal Pradesh for around a year without paying rent. 👉 When Hussain demanded payment, Gogoi allegedly threatened to shoot him and chased away the operator at gunpoint. 👉 Hussain reportedly lodged a complaint at Demow Police Station, but allegedly no action was taken. 👉 Before the Guwahati shooting, Gogoi was reportedly living in rented accommodation at Minaram Boro Path near the Hockey Stadium in Betkuchi with his wife, Jonmani, and their five-month-old daughter. 👉 He allegedly had not paid rent regularly for four to five months and had placed a purportedly fake “PRESS” sticker on his personal vehicle. 👉 On October 26, shortly before the shooting, Gogoi reportedly arranged an Uber to transport his wife and daughter, allegedly towards Tezpur, before proceeding to Hotel Bilas Inn in Guwahati’s Lachit Nagar. 👉 At around 9 PM, an argument reportedly broke out over the lease agreement for the hotel. 👉 Gogoi allegedly opened fire, killing Helena Bharali, Devarshi Kashyap, Rinika Kashyap, Bhudev Bharali and caretaker Narayan Das. 👉 Bhudev Bharali’s driver, Satyendra Pathak, was injured and taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). 👉 On the night of the shooting, Ghanakanta Gogoi reportedly called his sister-in-law, Namita Gogoi, and told her that around seven people had surrounded and assaulted him after he stepped out of his car. 👉 She alleged that two women were among the group. 👉 Namita further claimed that Gogoi told the family he had been injured, feared another attack and used his firearm in self-defence before surrendering to the police.
