Miss Amit Mann was a precocious and responsible young woman living in Israel. Not only at the age of 22 was she a paramedic — but she was qualified to teach the course to others too.
That October 7th morning, Amit was in Beeri's dental clinic helping the wounded.
At 2:02pm, Amit texted her family: “Please be strong if something happens to me.”
At 2:05, Amit sent a voice message to her family’s Whatsapp group. She can be heard pleading, amid the loud pop of gunfire: “Please, please, please, please make it stop. They’re here.”
Then a gunshot.
At 2:14, Amit’s sister, Haviva Izikson, dialed her number, desperate to know what was happening. It was a very brief conversation, which Haviva recounted.
Amit: They are here. They shot me in the legs. I’m not going to make it. They’re on me.
Haviva: What do you mean?
The line went dead.
Haviva did not hear from her sister again. Amit’s body was finally recovered and identified by forensics on Monday, Oct. 9, two days after the attack began.
She had a deep wound in the forehead. Her left leg had a tourniquet tied around it, photos obtained by Reuters News show.
After the October 7th attack, Amit became a symbol of bravery and heroism. Many new babies have been named "Amit" in honor of her, and I know of at least two converts who have chosen her name as their Hebrew name because of her story.
Last month, a recording of her call to Israel's version of 911 was released. According to reporting from Times of Israel, Amit called emergency services around 7am and asked for the army.
"There are a lot of wounded people here, and there are a lot of dead people here. There is still active shooting here, and there are no forces that can evacuate the wounded?”
According to Channel 12, Mann made a final recorded call to police at 10:41am with a plea for help to come, after making seven calls to MDA.
“Listen, there’s a terrorist infiltration in Be’eri,” Mann said. “Get an ambulance or police here! Urgent! Urgent!”
That help didn't arrive soon enough.

On October 7th, Liraz Assulin was attending the Nova music festival.
At 6:53 AM she sent her family a message saying: "My family, I love you, they're shooting at me." She then added, "They are shooting at me in bursts".
Her phone then went silent. When her sister called her phone, a Palestinian terrorist, later identified as Mahmoud Afana from Gaza, answered it and said: "The Jewish woman is dead. The Jewish woman is de@d," and hung up.
Liraz was a 38-year-old accountant from the city of Kiryat Mala'achi.
Liraz was a devoted family member who was always there for her family. She spent the night before with her family eating the Sabbath and holiday meal.
