Markets seem tired, tired of the uncertainty.
They gave major RS and resiliency for months on end, but instead of seeing it like some temporary goodwill, it was taken by POTUS as a sign that he was doing everything right.
The rubberband broke, with all that goodwill coming in due.
The market is tired of the lies.
We are now experiencing the market showing the admin enough is enough.
We had the biggest technological revolution of all times, a strong economy and everything lined up for a massive republican win.
Instead they abused markets, abused the economy and now there is absolutely nothing to show for it.
People are struggling, all promises were broken, allies are gone, the AI theme is tanking....

personal take: as much as I'm techno optimist, I genuinely dislike it when people on X dunk on regular folk for criticizing AI
a company has told everyone they will lose their jobs, many companies did layoffs, people have families. on top of saying all the layoffs are necessary so AI proves econ value until it cures the cancer or saves planet but they did anything but those so far
you might be making a ton from AI, many don't. some people also found a ton of purpose from their work which is gone. I'm not saying we should console people but maybe also don't dunk on a frustrated mass? the field is already detested and this is not helping

🇷🇸 THIS IS BELGRADE TONIGHT
Tens of thousands of Serbians packed Slavija Square with music, flares and fireworks after the student-led movement defeated Vučić’s ruling coalition in a historic parliamentary election.
The movement grew out of nearly two years of anti-government protests after the deadly Novi Sad station collapse.
With almost all votes counted, the student-backed list took 52.7% against 39.2% for Vučić’s alliance.
From street protests to control of parliament 🔥

Here’s @ThePrimeagen saying sg similar using his words
So many ppl including CEOs feel the need to have AI “clean up” their thoughts feeling insecure to post them raw
When you clean it up w AI you become like everyone else, plus you become associate w low quality and “slop”
I know a lot of you want to make content and I have seen a lot of it
Here is my tip (and just the tip girl): Don't let claude write your script, don't let OpenAI review your script, don't let an AI near it at all. Feel what you are speaking.
What you can use AI for: "Was 1975's Shockwave Riders really where we get the term worm from?"

Indians cannot enter these cafes in their own country because Israelis have banned them from entering.

Also if you're going to brag about obliterating something, maybe first check whether that thing is regarded by most of the population as an important source of meaning and joy. I don't know, I'm not a PR person

One of the worst forms of brainrot AI has cultivated is pessimism about basic research, ie the idea that important work can only happen inside a frontier/neo lab and only with 10k+ GPUs, so the rest should not even bother. What a bleak way to think about science. And it's false.

I hope the proposals by frontier labs to pace AI research stem from a genuine concern for safety and a recognition of the potential risks posed by future models, rather than a strategic effort to consolidate power and permanently solidify the market dominance of a few top players.
If these efforts are genuine, then oversight must take a more democratic and accountable form, with both national and international components, similar to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the US and the International Atomic Energy Agency internationally.
If there is only one organization responsible for safety monitoring, and it happens to be staffed by the same people as the frontier labs, and it is perfectly aligned with them both by incentives and by ideology, then it would be indistinguishable from letting frontier labs self-regulate and self-certify their own safety standards.
Two potential warning signs of regulatory capture to watch out for:
1. Calls to ban open-source AI. Open-source development currently serves as the only real counterweight to the dominance of frontier labs.
2. Attempts to hinder non-frontier research. Models that are one or two generations behind the frontier -- whose level of capability has already been deployed at scale -- are empirically known not to pose safety risks.
As long as we don't see 1 & 2, and we see real international coordination efforts, then I will optimistically believe that the proposals are benevolent.

It is crazy how a technology that has the potential to cure cancer, alzheimer's, and who knows what else is so universally hated outside of rich tech.
How did Sama and Dario so thoroughly fumble this?
How did they not see telling everybody they're going to lose their jobs every few months and now we might (👉👈) accidentally kill everyone isn't a winning strategy?

Certain companies train their AIs to plagiarise work by unnamed scholars, extending an AI history permeated by plagiarism and misattributions. It started a long time ago. In the 1900s, the old method of least squares (Gauss & Legendre, 1795-1805) was renamed "neural network," without citation of the original. In the 1950s, cybernetics was renamed “AI" by people who did not want to credit earlier AI pioneers such as Wiener. In the 2000s, AI techniques of the 1960s (Ivakhnenko & Lapa 1965, Amari 1967) were renamed “deep learning” without correct attribution. I could point out many additional cases. Some of the plagiarists even got awards. In the best interests of the field, and scientific honesty in general, it is time to stop this.
Alas, in the end, the facts must always win. As long as the facts have not yet won, it's not yet the end. As Elvis put it, "Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away.”

Some claim that AGI is here now. Ridiculous. No AGI without mastery of the real world! No true self-improvement without self-improving hardware, as opposed to the already existing, self-improving, meta-learning software [DLH].
Quote from Sec. 20 of [DLH]: "As I have often pointed out, the only AI that works well today is AI in the virtual world behind the screen, for example for automatically summarizing documents, creating images, programs and PowerPoint slides. But there is no AI-controlled robot that can do what a plumber can do [DYS23][JY24], or what a capuchin monkey can do, because the physical world is much more demanding than the world behind the screen. Passing the "Turing Test" [TUR3,a,b][TUR21] is much easier than True AI or Real AI in the physical world [95-25]. Hence the Turing Test is not a good way of measuring intelligence. To achieve True AI, AI software research per se is not enough, it has to be combined with the physical world of machines and robots. No AGI without mastery of the real world!"
