For six months, I was on top of the world. I got a promotion. A raise. I thought it was my hard work. I really did.
Then, I found the messages on his phone while he was in the shower. Not from his wife. From the new hire in marketing.
They were identical to the ones he sent me. Word for word. "This stays between us." "You're different from everyone else here."
When I confronted him, the charming HR mask slipped instantly. "You're being emotional," he said, his voice cold. "And unprofessional."
The next day, I was called into a meeting. Not with Mark, but with the VP of Operations. There was a folder on the table.
"We've received reports about your performance," the VP said. "And concerns about your... boundaries with the staff."
Mark had documented everything. Every late-night email, every meeting. But in his version, I was the one pursuing him. I was the liability.
I didn't even fight it. I knew the system. He was the system. I signed the severance agreement which included a non compete and left my badge on the desk.
I saw on LinkedIn today that he was promoted to Director. And there was a new hire in the comments, thanking him for such a warm welcome.

Landlord: “Your security deposit is being withheld because the apartment was left with significant damage.”
Tenant: “What damage? I handed over the keys after cleaning the entire apartment.”
Landlord: “The kitchen cabinet is broken, the bedroom wall has holes, and the living room carpet is badly stained.”
Tenant: “I have pictures from the morning I moved out. Everything was in perfect condition.”
Landlord: “Pictures don’t change what our maintenance team reported.”
Tenant: “Then when did your maintenance team inspect the apartment?”
Landlord: “Three days after you moved out.”
Tenant: “And who had access to the apartment during those three days?”
Landlord: “Our maintenance staff and the next tenant who came to view it.”
Tenant: “The next tenant?”
Landlord: “Yes. They were allowed to inspect the property.”
The tenant went quiet for a moment.
Tenant: “You are telling me someone else entered an empty apartment, and now you’re charging me for damage that happened after I returned the keys?”
The landlord insisted the deductions were legitimate.
But then the tenant sent him a photograph taken on moving day.
Tenant: “Look at the kitchen cabinet. Now check the photograph your maintenance team submitted.”
The landlord opened both pictures.
Landlord: “I’ll need to look into this.”

My fiancée and I had agreed to wait until our wedding night before becoming intimate.
We had been together for two years, and although we were deeply in love, we both wanted to share that experience after getting married.
Three weeks before the wedding, she suddenly changed her mind.
We were sitting together on the sofa when she moved closer and held my hand.
Fiancée: “I don’t want to wait anymore.”
I looked at her.
Me: “What’s changed?”
Fiancée: “I want to experience being completely close to you before I become your wife.”
I smiled and pulled her closer.
Me: “Are you sure? I thought we agreed to wait.”
Fiancée: “I know what we agreed. But I’ve been thinking about it, and I feel ready now.”
I kissed her forehead.
Me: “There’s no pressure, baby. We can wait until the wedding if that’s still what you want.”
She nodded.
Then her expression changed.
Fiancée: “There’s another reason.”
I sat upright.
Me: “What reason?”
She looked down at her hands.
Fiancée: “My doctor told me something yesterday, and I don’t know how to tell you.”
I immediately became concerned.
Me: “Are you okay? Is something wrong?”
She took a deep breath.
Fiancée: “I went for a medical examination because I’ve been experiencing some unusual symptoms.”
Me: “And what did the doctor say?”
Her eyes filled with tears.
Fiancée: “They found something during the examination. I need to explain everything, but I’m scared you’ll change the way you see me.”
I held her hands.
Me: “You’re about to become my wife. Whatever it is, let’s face it together.”
She looked at me.
Then she whispered:
Fiancée: “The doctor said I might not be able to have children.”
I froze.
