Amateur radio (or ham radio) refers to the use of limited radio bands operating outside of commercial broadcasting purposes for the public to communicate without cell phones or the internet.

📻 Amateur radio shaped modern tech, from satellites to the internet. Yet, much of its history is at risk of being lost forever. 🕳️ #VanishingCulture
Why does this matter? Because creators don’t always realize they’re making history ➡️ blog.archive.org/2025/01/14/…

A much more affordable down-converter for people who have SDRs like RTL-SDR, AirSpy, SDRPlay, or entry level spectrum analyzers that work up to 2/3GHZ:
moRFeus: a 2-in-1 tool. It has 2 modes: mixer and RF signal generator, working between 30MHZ to 6GHZ.
Works with USB power (no internal battery)
Doesn't require a computer to work.
Here's a screenshot of receiving a 2.4GHZ signal down-converted to 1GHZ using a SDRPlay RSP1A (which can only receive up to 2GHZ)
159$ on CrowdSupply
Want to extend your SDR or spectrum analyzer’s range? Most cap at 6GHz, but a down-converter shifts higher frequencies into measurable ranges. I use one from Lotus Communication Systems (made in USA) to analyze signals up to 14GHz!
Example photo attached: A 12GHz signal converted to 3GHz.
It’s software-defined, so I can adjust the LO frequency. (e.g., 8GHz input + 2GHz LO = 6GHz & 10GHz outputs. Mixers produce both sum and difference of the 2 signals, so it's also an up-converter)
Note: These mixers degrade phase noise & amplitude of the input signal.

I'm currently growing a series of YouTube short videos about things I learned as an electronics engineer - some hints and tips from my Electronics Notebook.
Currently there are just a few videos there, but I am adding more as the days and weeks go by.
