Yes, Sony has stopped making Blu-ray players, but also the underlying patents have mostly expired, bringing a flood of cheaper Chinese players.
Who knows, maybe one of them will innovate.
A portable player with built-in streaming to iPads?
That’s the future I want to see.

"Zoomers care a lot about ownership. They know that if they don't have a piece of media physically, then a corporation could censor it or take it away. Video game and entertainment companies are killing discs when they're more popular than ever."

.@Panasonic needs to take the mantle of 4K UHD Blu-ray (and Blu-ray) like Pioneer's revision of LaserVision into LaserDisc. Absolute dominance and future innovation, even if catering to a niche. Supporters will respond.

Just found out Y tu mama Tambien (2001) is no longer available on *any* streaming service in the U.S., & that Criterion had to stop producing Blu-Rays
Easily one of the 5 most important films of the century
This is why relying on streaming for preservation is a shit idea.

Being a straight acting gay man is very hard because I’m constantly coming out and men never hit on me :(
Nothing cooler than going to a media store on another continent and seeing your own product (put out by a local distributor with no modification)

Re-sharing this with some extra images here to remind everyone of how versatile yet refined Katsura-sensei's skills were. From cel illustrations , to watercolours, to designs. I've been in awe of his work for thirty years. Rest in peace, and thank you for all the inspiration.

Manga in Japan is cheaper since it’s produced there, yes, but the sad fact is that globally print is becoming expensive. There are less paper volumes being produced in Japan period.
It is completely normal for series to suddenly switch digital only releases after the first vol.

Not that Deadline’s brand was ever great, but any media outlet posting literal AI fanfiction is pretty much just lighting its brand on fire. There is no recovering trust from this.
AI "actress" Tilly Norwood returned to the #ZurichSummit at @zurichfilmfest one year after she blew up, and said she’d love to work with Tom Holland and Olivia Colman, but only if “it were their digital twins on an AI production”
