Dear MagAmericans who think Canada cannot possibly withstand this: You’re confusing economic size with strategic advantage. That’s a pretty American mistake. Of course the U.S. can hurt Canada more than Canada can hurt the U.S. Canadians know that. We’ve done the math.+

Dear BC political journalists: I would like to read a fly-on-the-wall article about the meetings Eby had with staffers who warned him not to call an election.

I don't get why so many on the left and the right point to ideology being at the heart of the BC results, when the evidence points to "BC NDP made a cynical election call and NDP voters stayed home" as the real factor.
A warning to all of the NDP - if you govern from the centre and not as Democratic Socialists - you risk this. The Bob Rae curse.

NEW: BC Conservatives brought in a priest to exorcise bad spirits before election night at Rocky Mountaineer Station. Same venue where Kerry-Lynne Findlay was crowned leader months ago, right before her disastrous run. Divine intervention clearly worked. #bcpoli #cdnpoli

Agreed. Although I super care because it appears to have actually reduced bullying.
Its insane to me that 25% of the populations top issue was SOGI 123 Like really? who gives a fuck, how does that have ANY impact on our day to day lives? Oh no a school has a toolkit to combat bullying, no good....... Abolish it or not, I don't care, but jesus christ you're privileged if thats your top issue

Friendly reminder that while 48% of registered voters in BC bothered going to the polls, of those, roughly 23% voted conservative. So we now have a majority government that is supported by less than a 1/4 of registered voters. Friendly reminder about that.

Since many seem confused. Centre-right parties have governed BC for 52 of the past 74 years. The NDP? About 22. Whatever your political views stop acting like BC has historically been a left-wing stronghold. Perhaps get out of your bubble and talk to some other people. Because you know what it’s okay to have friends and families that share different political views from you. It’s strange that some of you don’t.

It’s been both funny and sad to see people who should know better get this easily available fact wrong in the service of seeing a grand conservative wave developing. And that’s in addition to the actual story of the election, which was depressed NDP turnout

Holy crap, the BC Cons tried tabling a bill making a new statutory holiday called the Freedom Convoy Recognition Day (and abolishing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation).
Replying to @HelloStephano
Bill M 228, the Freedom Convoy Recognition Day Act, would make March 11 a BC statutory holiday passed first reading so yes we'll see more of this culture war #BCpoli

No Canadian east of BC knows anything about BC. Mr. Frum should know full well that the (poorly named) BC Liberals were a fully conservative government, and were in power a mere 9 years ago.
Canadian province of British Columbia just elected a Conservative government for first time in decades. Here's part of the story why, me in the @theAtlantic from 2025 theatlantic.com/internationa…

Conservatives have governed BC under the names “Social Credit” and “BC Liberals” for 52 of the last 74 years. Uninformed people should stop portraying this as the first time BC has had a right wing govt in 100 years.

this whole "first conservative government in decades" thing is getting pretty annoying. here's our last conservative premier christy clark, who was in power until 2017, explaining why electing right-wing governments is not new in BC:

Anyone trying to analyze the BC election result as "the first Conservative win in 98 years" can safely be disregarded as not knowing anything about BC politics lol
If Mark Carney is so popular how did Conservatives win in B.C.? They haven’t won in 98 years. And it’s a supermajority at that. And Conservatives also just won 19 seats in the Quebec election. They haven’t won a seat in that legislature in 91 years. Liberal supporters have convinced themselves that the ridings of the 5 CPC floor-crossers are now Liberal strongholds. They have everything to lose during the next election and they are lashing out right now on this platform.

So voter turnout in #bcpoli yesterday was the lowest in BC history. Meaning the conservatives gained 20 seats with nearly 50,000 fewer votes. NDP lost 275,000 votes. There wasn’t an increase in con support as much as a collapse in NDP support.

I strongly resent that at the same time the NDP needed to be taught a lesson is the same time maple MAGA idiocy is an existential threat to our country. I wish BC parties would stop taking everyone for granted.

What a surprise. Guess what BC, this means they are going to say the budget is too messed to keep their campaign promises.
.@LDoerkson said today interest payments are "choking the economy" & commits to an independent investigation into BC's finances. Said the $1B accounting error by the @bcndp has him "terrified" at what else they might discover.
