Kansas went blue because of tariffs. Tariffs hurt the framers. Kansas was red in the Senate for 94 years. Tariffs donโ€™t work. Blanket tariffs are bad policy. Donโ€™t institute blanket tariffs.

Last night was overall for the best. MAGA *needed* to be punished, and whether or not we capitalize on the opportunity is another story) rebuking it was the most basic prerequisite to any chance at any kind of future recovery.

Phil - there is obviously no question โ€œAmericaโ€ hates it and โ€œvotersโ€ hate it. But what is most striking, is how much the people hate it who were supposed to be the beneficiaries of it. American manufacturers hate it, working class Americans hate it, and perhaps more than anyone, small business hates it.
A reminder to @oren_cass that America hates your tariff agenda. And this one is from the NBC exit polls:

Trump is historically off putting to the electorate. The was always going to be the outcome of a second Trump term.
National GOP strategist conspicuously sends me these

People will overcomplicate it because never has a defeat been more obviously overdetermined. The tariffs - which destroyed Trump's popularity LONG before he started a losing war - are even more important. Equally as important: the flagrant corruption, performative cruelty, and obsession with masturbatory public antics.
National GOP operative tells me: "People will try to overcomplicate this, but its really simple: This is 100% because of Iran. It's all in the data and has been since a week after the war started. The economic anxiety is directly correlated with the war. We got our asses kicked because of it."

Grow up. Last night WAS the legacy of his "leadership."
The loss of Charlie weighs heavily It makes me cry to think about the continuing ripple effect of his murder. I am not sure if we will ever fully grasp the affect his leadership was having on the Republican Party and thus the country. His ability to steer the White House in the direction of the concerns of conservatives and independents The unifying effect he had on the conservative movement, somehow unifying the Tucker Carlsons with the Ben Shapiros and the Dave Rubins with the Allie Stuckeys just enough to win elections against an evil party His passion for getting out the vote among his audience and college students We have no replacement right now

Coming soon to an inbox near you: "it wasn't the tariffs" and "real tariffs haven't been tried." Don't buy it. A) It wasn't ONLY the tariffs, but the polls/results are clear: they were a BIG anchor. B) This IS real tariffs. They raise prices BY DESIGN, fuel cronyism/carveouts, hurt smallbiz & many manufacturers, alienate allies, & cause many other problems/distortions - especially when done by executive action (which boosts uncertainty). There's a reason these taxes have been mostly abandoned - by the US and every other rich country. The GOP should stop listening to the protectionist fundamentalists (and cronies) and abandon them too.

Republicans got blown out because of the tariffs. People will make a million other excuses, but it was, in fact, the tariffs.

Last night was a referendum on postliberal economics. It failed catastrophically.

Sure, this is the biggest wipeout in 100 years, and the Democrats are going to control Congress, but they can't stop Trump from pointing at things and renaming them, and at the end of the day, that's what he truly loves the most. So checkmate, Libs.

If the party's takeaway is anything less than this, they will continue to fail.
The GOP needs to reclaim our Reagan principles. Voters rejected populism, chaos, Putin and tariffs.

Purge these liars from the Right. They didn't obstruct anything Trump wanted, with the sole exception of Thune resisting Trump's moronic, ruinous desire to give Senate Democrats the power to end America.
I would like to personally congratulate @SpeakerJohnson and @LeaderJohnThune for the Democrats' victory tonight. They both spent 22 long months ignoring the will of the American people and slow-walking or obstructing @realDonaldTrump 's agenda. Well done, men!

I wrote this 16 months ago. :(
๐Ÿ‘€ Guys. I'm looking at trajectories. I think the midterms are going to be BRUTAL for the GOP. - Florida real estate seems in full implosion mode. From what I see, it's even hit Miami. - Interest rate cuts can't outrun low consumer confidence and job fears to stem the bleeding. - Retail is suffering and shedding jobs. - The service industry is in full contraction - A million people stopped looking for work. - Work hours are down, down, down. - Inflation is low and down because retail and services CANNOT afford to raise prices. - GDP was revised downward The gambit to try to pull forward the pain points and let some air out of the economy did NOT work. This means serious unemployment will be hitting us by the end of the year and into next year. The mid-terms will cause political chaos.

In just one year, President Trump has accomplished more than many presidents do in eight. We've never had a president fight harder to deliver on the promises he made to the American people than President Trump. I'll recap it all during the Press Briefing today at 1PM. Tune in!

Well this aged HILARIOUSLY badly.
2026 is not 2018. In 2018 he had been buffeted by the Russian Hoax for 18 months, Mueller's SCO was still active, and the Media continued to portray him as a Russian stooge. In 2026 the electorate is completely aware of all the false narratives that have been run against Trump for a decade. His campaigning will be much more effective.
