Hot take: watching a man get executed on livestream is low class behavior. I understand the Romans made killing a public spectacle, and so did the French Revolution but that’s entertainment for the plebs. I hold myself to a higher standard. You have to ask yourself what you’re feeding when you deliberately sit down to watch somebody die... What part of you wants that experience? Remember, the content you consume shapes who you become. If you feed yourself enough cruelty, eventually death becomes entertainment. Yes, this man is evil, and he should be condemned but bloodlust is not a virtue. If you care about your spiritual life guard what you watch. You should be more worried about what’s happening to your soul.

“Committing violence against Scripture” is rhetoric, not an argument. At no other point in the Gospel does Jesus repeat Himself 7 different times to drive home an “I am” point. That number is significant, so it seems like it’s REALLY important. And even when many disciples leave Him, He doesn’t attempt to clarify to those that walk away or to even the Apostles. He turns around and asks if they want to leave too. That’s not a Man who was misunderstood. That’s a Man who was understood correctly and wasn’t willing to bend the Truth. But it goes much deeper than that. Jesus is the Lamb of God. What does that mean? He’s the new Passover Lamb. What were the instructions for the first Passover? Kill the lamb, spread its blood on the door post and lintel, and then eat it. Jesus was killed, His blood was spread on the Cross, and then… we are to eat the Flesh of the Lamb. BUT THERE’S EVEN MORE Jesus is the new Moses. In John 6:49, Jesus Himself draws the comparison between the manna from heaven. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament, so everything is much more complete with Him. So if literal manna falling from heaven is the incomplete sign, what could Jesus do to possibly top that? Grape juice and saltines that we pretend has a meaning? That’s a significant downgrade. But the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in His entirety of the Word Made Flesh is mind blowing in its magnitude of generosity. And not just for a single generation, but made available to all generations! How wonderful is our God! And the signs of this in Gospel are apparent starting with the Nativity of the Lord. Where do they lay Him? In a manger. The Bread of Life, is laid in a feeding trough. The imagery is incredible. Couple all this with the witness of the Early Church, and it’s very clear that we’re not the ones “committing violence against Scripture.”

I invite everyone to pray for father Chris, pictured here. His church offers 4 to 5 hours of confessions a week, at least one of them does. I didn’t check the other. But now, because someone’s politics got hurt, he is slandered Now, his office will be inundated with calls from awful, awful people. Some of them will be genuinely crazy. His life is going to be very very difficult for the next two weeks until we move onto the next outrage our political masters direct us toward. I invite everyone who sees this to pray for that Priest. Pray that God protect him and encourage him.

We are delighted to announce the birth of our beloved daughter: Perpetua Mary Rose Hahn. Born on September 18th, 2026. As many of you know she had a very difficult start to life due to severe oxygen deprivation at birth. She was born via emergency c-section and there was a great deal of difficulty getting her out. She had to be transferred to a specialist hospital for therapeutic cooling - a process through which they sedate her and bring her temperature right down to try and reduce swelling in her brain and subsequent lasting damage. We spent the first days of her life with her sedated and ventilated, unable to hold her or care for her. This is where our families put out calls for prayer and support and people have responded with astounding love and generosity. Thank you all so much, we are forever indebted to everyone who prayed for us, asked their children to pray for us, had masses said for us, and provided food and gift cards for us. By way of update, Perpetua seems to be thriving. As of the last twenty four hours she has made remarkable progress; coming off sedation and the ventilator, infection markers are down, learning to breastfeed well and keeping her blood sugars up. As of today we are being transferred out of the specialist hospital and out of NICU altogether to finish her antibiotic treatment at our local hospital. We really cannot stress enough how we much we attribute this swift recovery to the power of prayer. Again, thank you 🙏! Please enjoy some photos of the journey we have been on. We think she is the cutest baby in town, but we are admittedly biased. We would appreciate your prayers going forwards, as with brain injuries, often things aren’t evident until later down the line. So we will watch and wait and pray that she continues to thrive. Our Lady of Walsingham and Saint Perpetua, Ora Pro Nobis!

Pope Leo XIV: “The mission of the Christian soldier is… defending the weak, protecting peaceful coexistence, intervening in disasters, operating in international missions to preserve peace and restore order. All this cannot be reduced to a mere profession: it is a vocation, a response to a call that challenges the conscience. The soldier’s identity is forged by generosity, a spirit of service, high aspirations and deep feelings. But these values require a foundation, a gift of Grace capable of fostering charity to the point of total self-sacrifice. It is therefore necessary to inspire the codes, norms and missions of military life with the lifeblood of the Gospel so that, in the service of security and peace, the common good of peoples is always the first priority” vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

Fulton Sheen understood this in his time. He competed with prime time TV and won. There’s no reason it can’t be done in the internet age.
Too much Catholic content is mediocrity with a crucifix glued to it. If we want to really make an impact, we need to understand that our competitors are not each other, but Mr Beast, Mark Rober, Hollywood, etc.

Catholic Inc. would freak out if they knew this: But you can do a Catholic content that isn't just jokes about the saint of the day or the pope You can be have controversial opinions and make off color remarks without compromising your faith There is a whole world of content out there to be made if you just free yourself from needing to be sponsored by H*ll*w

Clearly God cares about beauty in worship. Limiting your faith formation to merely the words of our incarnate Lord will still put you head and shoulders above the rest of the world, and if that’s all you had, it would be far better than nothing at all. But God has given us so much more in Scripture. Is Jesus Christ not the Word Made Flesh? Is not the entirety of Scripture God-breathed? Did Jesus come to abolish the law and the prophets? Why would He spend so much time detailing how to construct the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant in Exodus? The deeper lesson here isn’t merely “God finds beautiful things pleasing” but that it’s most fitting for the objects that we use in our worship of the Lord come from our finest and first fruits. God has given us His best in giving us His Only Son. It’s only fitting that we return the favor. Not because we could ever repay Him. The entirety of humanity could work with absolute fidelity for the next billion years and that wouldn’t amount to a single drop in the ocean. But just as any father is pleased when their children give them a crayon drawing as an act of gratitude, God is also pleased when we build beautiful for things for His glory. Beautiful things exist in this world. What greater purpose could those beautiful things serve than to glorify the Lord?

The Catholic faith has answers to the biggest questions. Now, we're bringing them to Substack. People today are asking about God, suffering, marriage, morality, Scripture, culture, and even the meaning of life. But having the answers is not enough. We need to bring them to the places where people are searching. Substack is the newest front in our mission to explain and defend the faith through thoughtful articles, serious apologetics, cultural commentary, and direct conversation with readers. Our goal is to help Catholics become more confident in what they believe, give seekers a place to ask honest questions, and let skeptics know they are welcome in the conversation. This is about a decision I made earlier this year regarding Mike Pantile and the Catholic Creator Conference, and why I think I got it wrong. Criticism welcome. Written and read ahead of time so I could say exactly what I meant.

Take a look at this picture. What do you think the architect designed it for? A church? A royal palace? Perhaps it’s the home of some outrageously rich nobleman from a bygone era. Maybe it’s a hallway in a luxurious hotel. Would it surprise you to know that this was designed for a hospital? Not just any hospital, but a hospital for the poor. The is Hospital Sant Pau in Barcelona, a nice walk from the Sagrada Família. Beauty is not merely for the churches and the wealthy. This is not hatred of America. It’s love for something greater than ourselves. Just because a building is destined for commercial use, that doesn’t mean it has to be devoid of beauty. The lack of beauty at large in our culture is killing our souls. The picture on the left sacrifices all of that for the sake of increased profits. This hospital and the Sagrada Família is what it looks like when people believe that beauty isn’t merely for the sake of opulence and that even the poor and the worker deserve to encounter beauty.
