“We cannot know for certain how long we have here. We cannot foresee the trials or misfortunes that will test us along the way. We cannot know God's plan for us. What we can do is to live out our lives as best we can with purpose, and love, and joy.” - Barack Obama

when i ask 3yo not to say “shut up” he says “well the shut up man is coming tomorrow and going to say shut up to you”. kind of difficult to respond to that. if i ask who the shut up man is, he says “oh you don’t know???” and laughs at me. feels like bullying

I have been reading books written about this continent in 1970s and 1980s including all Nkrumah books of 1950s.
Everything said about our continent 50 years ago, is exactly the same today. Are we living in a loop????

It appears his mercies are new this morning. Reliable sources report they were new yesterday morning and are forecasted to be new tomorrow morning as well. Truly remarkable stuff going on here.

Hurts me to say this: Africa will not be saved by entrepreneurship. We cannot vibecode ourselves into the 4th industrial revolution. We still need to industrialize. To achieve this, we need stronger and better public institutions. We need extremely competent leaders at the helm.

To understand the feat Tanzania has just pulled off, Uganda has a total installed electricity generation capacity of approximately 2098 MW. This is what it has built in it's entire existence. Tanzania has added in one swoop 2135 MW from a single dam built in 6 years
The moment at 11.31pm last night when our neighbors connected their 2135MW Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station to the rest of their grid.
Kenya national grid is connected to Tanzania through a synchronized AC system.

Planning went to the dogs halfway thru Kidero's term. Even after tabling the indepth plan. All regions are just winging it.
Really sad.

This hurts my soul as a civil engineer with a bias on transport and urban planning. I now read research papers concerning this situation as utopic narratives. Unfortunately, craft and career cannot out wrestle politics in the mud...
We are helplessly & painfully watching Nairobi turn into a concrete jungle of poorly built/positioned apartments, malls and petrol stations + no thinking around utilities, density management, sunlight/ventilation, walkability, green spaces or play spots for kids.
