Why are we losing our #wildlife at an alarming pace? Habitat loss, often caused by an obsession with tidiness. And it’s infuriating! 😡 Here are two dykes, less than one mile apart. Guess which holds more life? Same situation, different land owners. Flailing everything in sight HAS NO BENEFIT! It’s just an excuse to “tidy” our landscape. There are no drainage issues, no access issues & no sight line issues for drivers of cars. To all land owners out there - PLEASE leave some longer vegetation for #wildlife. You will be creating corridors for animals to move more freely throughout our landscape. And guess what… it won’t cost you a penny! Also, PLEASE don’t cut your hedges yet. If they absolutely need cutting, cut them back in Jan/Feb when the berries have been eaten. Cutting now removes a vital food source through the autumn/winter. As custodians of the wider landscape, there should be an obligation to manage the environment in a wildlife friendly manner. The future of our declining wildlife depends on it. As for councils, that’s a story for another day! #NoMowSummer

After spending 2.5 hours at Freiston Shore looking at the distant Blue-winged Teal that was mostly asleep, we wandered back to the car park where Linda persuaded me to have a final try from the reservoir viewing screen!

Not just tropical rainforest: woodland with ancient native Scots Pines trashed for quick cash crop by greedy landowners: oh and it’s a SSSI sanctioned by NE: I would be deeply ashamed

Now I know it ain't what you call proper birding but the feeling of peace & sanctitude I get from both watching & photographing the birds in my garden is immensely important. I hope you get the same level of pleasure however you bird! – at Grantham, England

Please sign this and contact your MP I’m furious that the Government has launched an #AttackOnNature. I care deeply about nature, so they don’t do this in my name. I’ve written urgently to my MP. Will you do the same? Follow this link to find out how. action.rspb.org.uk/page/1140…

Yesterday we celebrated #WorldWetlandsDay in Doñana releasing a few hundred marbled teals, horned coots and ferruginous ducks bred by Cañada de los Pájaros. They have been fighting to save these species from the brink of extinction for over 30 years now.

Happy 80th birthday @BillOddie. This well thumbed book and accompanying TV series was one of the catalysts of my love of birding and particularly patch birding when I was young. Sorry to hear you have been unwell. You’re a true inspiration to many generations of wildlife lovers.

Rare breeding birds under threat at Far Ings: a new access road to Humber Bridge Hotel could go through Far Ings SSSI next to an area where Bittern and Harriers are breeding.🤬 Unless you take action & object now! See Planning proposal HERE.👇 apps.northlincs.gov.uk/appli…

Another tip to ensure low soil fertility is; ✂️Cut flowers back to about 7cm in height in Autumn, remove cuttings to ensure dead foliage doesn't act as a mulch, which would otherwise increase soil fertility and smothering out new and existing plants.
