๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ A moving moment in Hollywood. Oscar-winning actor Dustin Hoffman, 89, joined Israeli singer Ester Rada for Israelโ€™s national anthem, โ€œHatikvah,โ€ at a special evening of solidarity with Israel at UCLA in Los Angeles. The event brought together Hollywood stars and former Hamas hostage Eliya Cohen and his wife, Ziv Abud. All ticket proceeds will support trauma recovery and resilience programs in southern Israel following the October 7 massacre. Video: @erevtov2 , Israelim

The beauty of being a non-Jewish Zionist? I can support the Jewish people without being Jewish, support Israel without being Israeli and annoy antisemites without even trying.

#October7 has shaped the way I will think for the rest of my life. It has reoriented my approach to being a leader in the American #Jewish community and redefined my sense of responsibility โ€” in what we say, what we teach and how we act. This dark day, and its aftermath, have upended decades of my assumptions and humbled me. One of the saddest developments has been the shock experienced by many American Jews, who, for the first time in their lives, are encountering pervasive hostility. The realization that age-old hatreds are still alive and kicking thrust American Jews into a crisis of confidence. We have heard eerie echoes of Europe, the haunting howls of hatred that brought our ancestors to America in the first place. What has kept me up at night is your profound concern regarding the intensification of #antisemitism. That a massacre of Jews in #Israel โ€” the worst we've seen since the Holocaust โ€” has resulted in protests and violence against Jews at the doors of our houses of worship and communal spaces in this country is shocking. That Israelis murdered in their own homes in Israel โ€” in its internationally recognized borders โ€” and would be blamed for their own victimhood โ€” appalls us. The disappointment, even betrayal, that we feel from our social justice allies, with whom we have stood shoulder to shoulder in the struggle to create a better world, have shaken us and resulted in severed relations. Jewish history has proven conclusively that it is far better for us to have power and agonize over its moral use than to be powerless and at the mercy of the dark lords. The clear lessons of centuries of Jewish history must not be misconstrued. Our vulnerability is the impetus to widespread animus, not our power. Israel was founded to empower Jews. After 2,000 years, a persecuted, abandoned, decimated people finally rose up and said โ€˜enough.โ€™ The days of murdering and massacring Jews with impunity are over. We will protect ourselves. We will defend our people. We will be masters of our own fate. We shall return to the ancient homeland and live again. Amidst the turmoil, polarization and anxieties of our times, do not abandon your affection, responsibility and loyalty to our own people. Our destinies are tied one to the other. We have many different views, we believe many different things. We are a contentious, argumentative, strong-willed, opinionated family, but we are family that assumes the obligations and responsibilities of love for each other. There is no force in the world more powerful than the united spirit of the Jewish people in urgent times. The tragedies of October 7 and the years of October 8 have produced so many young Jewish heroes filled with the spirit of righteousness, who feel called to defend their families, their friends, their people, and all that is good and noble in this world. Be like them. Join the struggle. Do not sit it out. Fight back everywhere, each in our own corner.

* During the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks by Muslim Jihadis on Chabad House, Sandra Samuel, an Indian nanny, ran out of her hiding place and rescued toddler Moshe Holtzberg where he was crying near his slaughtered Rabbi father and mother. * We Indians always have had the Jew's backs right from 2000 years ago when the first Jews landed in Kerala fleeing persecution in the middle East. They later became the Malabari and Paradesi Jews. * In the 1930s, Kundanlal, a Punjabi businessman saved five Austrian Jewish families. * In 1942, Maharaja Digvijaysinhji gave a home to about 1,000 Polish children, refugees and orphans displaced by the war, many of whom were Jewish. * Again in 1942, over 600 Jews fled from Burma to escape the Japanese. The Jewish communities in Bombay and Calcutta sheltered these refugees. * Between 1933 and 1945, nearly 5,000 German and Austrian Jews found asylum in India. * And now on 30th September Captain Smit Machchhar was instrumental in saving around 174 of Israel's children.

People talk about heroes and often point to celebrities. Lior Raz is a hero for what he did in the days after October 7th. Idan Amedi is a hero for fighting in the war, being injured, working tirelessly to recover, and continuing to share his incredible talents with the world. But the people I truly look up to are the survivors. The former hostages. The people who were at Nova and the kibbutzim on October 7th who now wake up every day and choose to survive, rebuild and thrive. The families and friends who lost the people they loved. The families who stood beside their loved ones through captivity and now support them as they recover from what they endured in Gaza. Iโ€™ve stood at the Nova site. Iโ€™ve seen where lives were shattered. These are the people I call heroes. Itโ€™s time to redefine the word hero. And itโ€™s time to show our children who they should admire.

The Crown Must Draw the Line: Strip the Sussexes of Their Titles The British monarchy is not a family brand & it is not a hereditary celebrity franchise. It is a constitutional institution. Its titles exist inside the system surrounding the Crown. When people permanently leave that system & keep using the titles conferred through it, the institution has a problem it cannot leave unresolved. That is why the Duke & Duchess of Sussex titles, and the princely styles attached to their children, should be removed and the official connection severed. Royal titles are not private decorations. The Dukedom of Sussex was created by Letters Patent in 2018 and conferred on Harry. The 1917 Letters Patent set the rules under which certain descendants of the Sovereign hold the style of Prince or Princess. Those rules now produce a contradiction: members of the Royal House have withdrawn from royal duties, built an independent public & commercial identity around their royal status, & still keep the titles. The honour no longer describes a function. It describes the absence of one. This is not a family quarrel. It is an institutional problem. A constitutional monarchy survives by keeping a bright line between those who represent the Crown & those who do not. Blur that line & two things follow. The public cannot tell where official association ends & private enterprise begins. The institution becomes responsible, in the public mind, for conduct it neither directs nor can restrain. Titles that travel with people who have left royal work still carry the residual authority of the Crown. That association is then spent in markets and media the Palace does not control. The Crown cannot treat the titles as private while the public continues to read them as royal. The children make the same problem sharper. Their princely styles became available when their grandfather became King. That is what the Letters Patent produced. It does not follow that those styles should remain in force once the immediate family has established itself outside the working institution. Archie & Lili remain in the line of succession & carry the styles of Prince & Princess while their parents hold no official role. That is royal status without institutional responsibility. It should end. Precedent already exists. In 2025 the King used Letters Patent to remove the style of Prince & the attribute of Royal Highness from his brother, & the Dukedom of York was struck from the Roll of the Peerage. Royal styles can be altered through the Crownโ€™s prerogative. Hereditary peerages can be dealt with by Parliament. Parliament has done it before, including under the Titles Deprivation Act 1917. The legal route for the Sussex titles may differ in form. The claim that nothing can be done is false. The King should remove the remaining royal styles & the princely styles from the Sussex children. Parliament should extinguish the Sussex peerage. The Sussexes should hold no official connection to the Crown of any kind: no patronages, no military appointments, no ceremonial functions, no official residences, no privileges arising from royal rank. Private family contact is a matter for the monarch. Official connection is not. Delay does not preserve dignity. It preserves an anomaly. Every year the titles remain in use while the holders live as private people, the Crown teaches that royal honours can be detached from the institution that gives them meaning. That weakens the next generation of working royals, who will be asked to accept constraint & scrutiny while royal status remains available as an independent brand. A monarchy that cannot enforce the meaning of its own titles will weaken the authority those titles were meant to support. The institution is larger than any one couple. Removing the titles and cutting the official link is not punishment. It is the restoration of the boundary: those who belong to the constitutional institution must be distinguishable from those who have left it.

As a second actor walks out a new charity show starring Maureen Lipman, the actress comes out fighting against this new form of McCarthyism: โ€˜There are a lot of Jewish actors who wonโ€™t speak up for Israel. They keep quiet. That is up to them. But I will not countenance juvenile, immature posturing. Why didnโ€™t Mr McCarthy just say he had a hernia if he really could not face working with me? โ€˜Why did he have to release a lengthy, moralising statement attacking views I have โ€œpublicly and repeatedlyโ€ expressed? โ€˜I will not be bullied, nor will I allow anybody to tell me what to think. If that affects their ability to work with me, as opposed to convert me to their point of view, then they are lily-livered. โ€˜I understand that the business I am in is very Left-wing. Most people I work with are very progressive. But if I were to stop working with people who thought like Mr McCarthy, I would be putting up my own gravestoneโ€ฆ. โ€˜I confidently predict that Mr McCarthy will one day be appalled about his decision to pull out of Right Before I Go. He could change his mind though. Letโ€™s behave as actors who believe in free speech and free thought, rather than engage in a new McCarthyism.โ€™ Full piece below ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

The brilliant Fauda co-creator and writer @issacharoff on Mark Ruffalo and antizionists at an event tonight in aid of the Tel Aviv University Trust: โ€˜Mark Ruffalo, saying genocide, genocide. You know that there's a kind of people that are ignorant. There are some people that are stupid. He is a rare combination of those two. Sorry to say that. Do you understand what that means, genocide? Do you, as a lead actor, understand that when Israel allows every day 600 trucks of food and supply to go into Gaza, they are not intending or planning to kill the people of Palestine? Do you understand? If more people were born during the war in Gaza than died, then no one was trying to eliminate those people, and the only ones that were trying to commit genocide were the Hamas people. What is about this guy and many other people don't get it? Even some Jewish people don't get it. Why? Because it's kind of cool and nice to come on stage and say โ€˜fuck thisโ€™ and โ€˜fuck Israelโ€™. I believe some day something way bigger will happen to make them understand reality better and won't surrender to all kinds of slogans and cliches and lies that are being spread.โ€™

I am getting really fucking sick of this "anti-Zionist" movement that's sprung up. It's no longer for anything. It's not for Palestine. It's not to free Palestine. It's "anti-Zionist". Those aren't my words, it's theirs. Well, what is a Zionist? Who are these people that these protestors seem so up in arms about? Zionism is defined as a movement for the self-determination and statehood for the Jewish people. So a Zionist is someone who believes that the Jewish people should have a State, and that this State should be able to make its own decisions. Simple. And there is now a global movement against the people who believe that. It's not a movement against Israel's policies. It's not a movement against Israel's governments. Hell, it's not even a movement against Israel. It's a movement against people who have an opinion. A belief. It is a movement against one of the core human rights - freedom of opinion. When Americans protested the war in Vietnam, they were protesting against the actions of their government. Today, Americans don't even know what they're protesting. Are they protesting a war that has one of the lowest casualty rates in modern history? Are they protesting that Israel is sending in more aid than before Oct 7 and Hamas is hoarding it and trying to sell it to the people of Gaza? Are they protesting that Israel, as is its right to do so, responded to a terrorist attack? Oh no. That's right. They're protesting against people with a certain opinion. An opinion that Jewish people should have a country - one country in the entire world, and that that country should be allowed to make its own decisions, just like every country in the world. If you want to debate and protest Israeli policy, great - let's do that - there's lots of things that Israel could improve upon - show me a country that doesn't have things they could do better? If you want to debate and protest whether or not they have the right government, great - many people would take your side on that one as well. But if you're going to go after people because of their BELIEF in a country's right to exist - that's just hate. That's just prejudice. And when the bulk of those people are Jews - yeah, a lot of people also consider that antisemitism. Jew-hate. Just like you'd call it Islamophobic if there was a movement against people who thought Muslims should have their own country. Speaking of which, there are currently 57 Muslim countries in the world. The Jews have 1, and you're protesting against the people who have an opinion that they're allowed to have it. And that's a violation of human rights.

History She was 21 when the Nazis executed her. Her last words still echo. Her name was Sophie Scholl. On February 22, 1943, she walked calmly into a Munich prison and was executed by guillotine. Her crime was not violence. It was dissent. She had chosen to tell the truth in a country where truth had become treason . Sophie did not begin as a rebel. Like many German teenagers of her time, she joined the League of German Girls, the female branch of the Hitler Youth. So did her brother, Hans. Participation was encouraged. Conformity was rewarded. Their father warned them that blind obedience could become criminal. Over time, they saw it for themselves. As students at the University of Munich, Sophie and Hans learned about the regimeโ€™s crimes and the mass killings carried out in Germanyโ€™s name. They chose not to remain silent. Together with a small group of friends, they formed the White Rose . Their weapons were not bombs. They were pamphlets . Between 1942 and 1943, they secretly wrote and distributed leaflets calling for moral responsibility and civil resistance. They quoted philosophers and scripture. They signed nothing. They trusted conscience over fear. On February 18, 1943, Sophie and Hans carried a suitcase of pamphlets into the university. After scattering them through the corridors, Sophie pushed the remaining stack over a balcony. It was impulsive. It was brave. It drew attention. They were arrested that same day . Four days later, after a brief show trial led by judge Roland Freisler, Sophie, Hans, and Christoph Probst were sentenced to death. There was no delay . Before her execution, Sophie reportedly said, โ€œHow can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause?โ€ She was 21. The White Rose was crushed. But its words survived. Allied forces later dropped millions of copies of their final leaflet over Germany. Sophie Scholl is remembered not as someone who sought death, but as a young woman who chose truth over safety and humanity over fear. She did not live to see change. But change came. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Courage can be silenced. Its echo cannot. Repost Horror Room Instagram

He told his students to go to the windows. Get out. Jump if you have to. Then Liviu Librescu walked to the classroom door and pressed his body against it. He was 76 years old. He weighed 140 lbs The gunman was in the hallway. It was April 16, 2007. A Monday morning. Solid mechanics class at Virginia Tech, Room 204. Twenty-two students, most of them 19 or 20 years old. At 9:45 AM, gunshots echoed through Norris Hall. Room by room, the shooter was working his way down the corridor. Liviu heard it. He understood immediately. He had survived the Holocaust. He had survived a labor camp. He had spent decades living under Communist oppression. He knew exactly what evil sounded like. He told his students to escape through the windows. Second floor โ€” it was a drop, but they'd survive. Then he walked to the door and held it shut with his body. The shooter tried to force it open. It wouldn't move. He fired through the door. Wood splintered. Bullets came through. Liviu stayed. Behind him, students were climbing out the windows. Dropping to the ground. Running. One by one, all twenty-two of them got out. The shooter kept firing through the door. Liviu held it shut until every student was safe. Then the bullets killed him. When police arrived, they found his body at the door. All 22 of his students survived. Not one was injured. Liviu Librescu was born on August 18, 1930, in Ploieศ™ti, Romania. He was Jewish. In 1941, when he was eleven years old, Romanian authorities sent him and his family to a labor camp. His father died there. Liviu survived. When the war ended, he was fifteen. He went back to school. Studied engineering. Earned a doctorate from the University of Bucharest. But Communist Romania had no interest in allowing a Jewish intellectual to succeed. He was blocked from academic positions. Passed over for jobs he deserved. He applied to emigrate. The government kept refusing. Finally, in 1978 when Liviu was 48 years old โ€” Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin personally intervened. Romania let him go. He had spent most of his adult life trapped in a country that didn't want him. In Israel, he taught at Tel Aviv University. Published over 300 papers. Became an international expert in aeroelasticity โ€” the science of how air flows over aircraft wings. In 1985, Virginia Tech offered him a position. He moved to Blacksburg, Virginia. He taught there for 22 years. His students loved him โ€” demanding but kind, high standards, genuine care. He was still teaching full-time at 76. Still publishing research. Still showing up every Monday morning for solid mechanics. April 16 was the first day of Passover โ€” the Jewish holiday celebrating liberation from slavery and oppression. Liviu Librescu died on the day his tradition sets aside to celebrate freedom. He spent his entire life escaping death and oppression by luck, by persistence, by the intervention of others. And on his last morning, he chose to stand at a door so that twenty-two young people could have the future he had fought so hard to reach. He could have run. He could have hidden. He could have climbed out a window with his students. He chose to stay. The Virginia Tech shooting killed 32 people that day โ€” the deadliest school shooting in American history at the time. Room 204 had zero casualties. Because a 76-year-old Holocaust survivor held a door with his body until every student behind him was gone. His funeral was held in Israel.
