20261025_1339Z POST TYPHOON CHAMPI SITREP Given there was so much interest with ingeniSPACE's monitoring work in the Indo-Pacific, we thought contextualize what is happening as TYPHOON CHAMPI passes to the north of Taiwan. CHINACOASTGUARD2303 "Meishan" was one of at least four PRC vessels that sailed through the Bashi Channel  into the "Triple EEZ" on the 23rd of October.  The other three ships CCG 2501, 2308, 2304 sail toward the Senkakus to be joined by ChinaCoastGuard 2302 If you are wondering how big is CCG 2303, its is a 4000-ton hull that is based off of China's Type054 guided missile frigate.  Today it is called the Type 818 Zhaoduan-class "law enforcement ship."  This is not a patrol boat. This is a warship in sheep's clothes. Behind them is the Tong Ji and Zhang Jian research vessels sailing the contours of Taiwan's Prohibited Zone to test 海巡署長室 Coast Guard and the 海洋委員會 situational awareness and response times - who have performed admirably to keep Taiwan's waters safe for everyone.  As we noted earlier during another social media Channel Japan sent several vessels to shelter in the Taiwan Strait. The PRC also sent ships to welcome them as well. ingeniSPACE's recent briefings to partners and allies  organizations, we believe that this information advantage will help the PLA understand and prepare the battlefield  Specifically, they are likely collecting empirical data on the impact of CHAMPI on the waters critical to anti-submarine warfare and underwater navigation. When someone knows your waters better than you do, they can extract economic benefits under your nose, or worse - strike at the time and place of their choosing. Remember, silence is tacit acuquiecense. Viz using @StarboardIntel what's up @MsiDouglas

Highlighting the PRC's Irregular Warfare campaign with @JoshuaMWilkes and the @DominoTheoryMag team. China is using its 100+ research vessels to map out the First Island Chain's underwater critical infrastructure. This isn't just a Taiwan or Philippine problem, it's a regional problem. Whether it is APRICOT, SEA-H2X, or TPU. These submarine cables carry the global business flows that satellite capacity and costs will never be able to compete with. Protecting this critical infrastructure means gov-to-gov joint operations (SOPs, comm, and dare I say it: Rules-of-Engagement). All must be regularly rehearsed. This kind of very cooperation is the very thing that can energize deterrence and economic cooperation. Kudos to Taiwan and to the Philippines! dominotheory.com/taiwan-open…

Last week, ingeniSPACE's COO Jason Wang spoke on Indo-Pacific security and strategic preparedness at the @Forum_2000 Foundation's 30th Anniversary. Forum 2000 is Europe's leading convener of democracy and human rights advocates, and President Václav Havel's legacy lives on in its work. COO stated that "well-targeted cognitive warfare has driven a rise in cynicism and distrust. We are witnessing influence operations in open source community as Russian and Chinese elements become more sophisticated. Deterrence and human analytical capacity building are the first priority to inoculate against the Axis of Authoritarians." In Havel's words: "Freedom and democracy include participation and therefore responsibility from us all." Read the original post: linkedin.com/feed/update/urn… #Forum2000 #Democracy #Taiwan

Big Splash! @NavalWarCollege/@ChinaMaritime Translation #37: “The Technical Evolution & Future Development of Chinese Navy’s 3rd-Generation Conventional Submarine” digital-commons.usnwc.edu/cm… Don’t let the title of this incredibly detailed article fool you! This lengthy analysis *also* offers deep-dive insights into why #China is now focusing on #nuclear #submarine development by producing both larger SSNs/SSGNs/SSBNs + small/micro-reactor “SSPns” [e.g., Type 041]—the latter optimized for shallow Near Seas operations—as part of Xi’s directive to build a “world-class Navy” second not even to America’s. As I explain in my Statement for the Record for the @USCC_GOV Hearing “Part of Your World: U.S.-China Competition Under the Sea,” Beijing is greatly emphasizing undersea warfare: uscc.gov/sites/default/files… My 83-page Korea Institute for Maritime Strategy Policy Report—“China’s Nuclear Submarine Development Quest: Strategy, Saga, Significance”—traces PRC nuke sub prioritization & progress up through ongoing 3rd-gen advances & Type 041 development: en.kims.or.kr/publication/ki… CMSI’s new translation by @RealNickHendo concludes with a worrying portent: “As China’s defense‑industrial research & manufacturing capabilities continue to advance, China may become the only country capable of developing entirely new‑concept submarines. In the future, the underwater operational posture & force balance in China’s near seas & the broader Western Pacific, both in quantity & quality, will shift dramatically, signaling that the Chinese Navy’s underwater combat capability is entering a completely new era of development.” China recognizes nuclear power as the submarine gold standard, it’s optimizing for its own situation & objectives, & it’s now apparently getting good enough technologically to leverage its unrivaled production scale & scope. Such powerful alignment of national goals & strengths is where the tides of history may turn…

What is a Maritime Militia fishing vessel in a flotilla comprised of two PRC Coast Guard vessels and a science vessel called Xiang Yang Hong 03? MFDY07902 was escorting Xiang Yang Hong 03 which was conducting a hydrographic survey of the Ryukyu Trench and the waters east of Taiwan. Why is this important? 60% of the worlds trade goes through these waters. (There's a third mysterious vessel too, but more on that later.) If the PLA understands the waters better than their adversary, they have both navigational and anti-submarine warfare advantage. Intelligence is asymmetric deterrence.

The US blockade on Iran has been very effective. Since 14 JUL, the US maritime blockade on vessels coming and going from Iranian ports has prevented Iran from exporting any of its crude oil. During September, UANI satellite monitoring has also observed no crude oil loadings taking place across Iranian oil export hubs. Loadings were limited strictly to non-crude cargoes, including small volumes of LPG, naphtha and fuel oil. -- See the @UANI September monthly report: unitedagainstnucleariran.com… -- @JemimaShelley @mercoglianos @TankerTrackers @JonathanEmont @MarcusHand1 @tldraanan @brentdsadler @KasraAarabi @cdrsalamander

LeoLabs has detected another debris-generating event in orbit. This is the latest in a series of events we've seen over the last 6 months. Together, they point to a worrying trend for space safety and security, and underscore the critical need for persistent sensing.

20261004_1258UTC - ARCTIC SITREP PRC RESEARCH VESSELS TRANSIT BERING STRAIT TAN SUO SAN HAO, a research ship from the PRC Institute of Deep Sea Research, is returning from a month-long voyage on the European side of the Arctic. This is a 10,000 tonnes deep-sea capable vessel If I remember correctly, was commissioned at the end of 2024. It had a vermillion paint job that made it uniquely Chinese. It's a Polar Class 4 vessel that has a DP-2 system, deploy submersibles, and can break ice in either direction -no joke. The reason why this vessel is notable to me is that it has four Wärtsilä 6L32 generators and two ABB thrusters. 22mega watts of power at its disposal. This vessel is no slouch. TAN SUO SAN HAO can accommodate up to 80 personnel. China is investing in conquering the Arctic both as a commercial route and military battle space. Want to know more? This is just one of multiple PRC Irregular Warfare activities around Taiwan, Japan, and the Philippines today. Jin Sha and Yue Hui Dong Yu 75066 turned off their AIS before entering the prohibited zone. They were warned to depart. Yue Hui Dong Yu 75066 departed but Jin Sha refused. From the footage reviewed, TCG took remarkable care not to hit anyone with the cannon. The fact the pilot house glass and door were virtually undamaged from a close range hit from a TCG water cannon and the number of individuals on the boat is rather curious. There is no question that the Taiwan Coast Guard is evolving. However TCG did not turn on their AIS transponder to show the world the law enforcement encounter occurred in prohibited waters. That's a missed opportunity. The can take a page from Philippine Coast Guard and @jaytaryela.
Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration (CGA) used a water cannon to drive off the Chinese fishing boat "Jin Sha" after it refused repeated orders to leave restricted waters near Taiwan-held Dongsha Island on Thursday.

PCG SHADOWS CHINESE RESEARCH VESSEL AND CCG ESCORTS AT OUTER LIMIT OF PH EEZ; TAIWAN COAST GUARD VESSELS ALSO SEEN IN THE AREA The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) continues to shadow the Chinese research vessel (CRV) JIA HAI KE 7 and its two China Coast Guard (CCG) escorts. The CRV has moved north from its earlier loitering position toward the outer limit of the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Luzon Strait. As the CRV moved into these waters, three (3) Taiwan Coast Guard vessels were also deployed to the area. This morning, they were operating near BRP TERESA MAGBANUA (MRRV-9701), the PCG's largest cutter, which remains on station. TCG 1001 was 0.89 nautical miles off MRRV-9701's port bow. TCG 1002 was 1.18 nautical miles off her port bow, and TCG 126 was 5.45 nautical miles off her port bow. As of today, BRP TERESA MAGBANUA is shadowing the three Chinese vessels. JIA HAI KE 7 is lying-to 8.45 nautical miles off her port side. CCG 2503 is underway 3.2 nautical miles off her port side, and CCG 14608 is underway 7.84 nautical miles off her port bow. The Chinese government sent two CCG vessels to stay with a supposedly private research ship all the way to the outer limit of the Philippine EEZ. This shows again that JIA HAI KE 7 is not operating on its own. A government law enforcement fleet does not escort a commercial survey ship unless that ship's mission serves the interests of the state. The presence of other maritime law enforcement vessels in the area also shows that concern over this vessel goes beyond the Philippines. JIA HAI KE 7 is a seabed-survey ship that held station for four days in waters crossed by critical submarine cable corridors. It also spoofed its AIS position to hide its movements. The safety of undersea communications infrastructure in the Luzon Strait matters to the entire region that depends on it. The PCG reiterates that no consent was requested or given for JIA HAI KE 7 to conduct marine scientific research in the Philippine EEZ, as required under Article 246 of UNCLOS and the Philippine Maritime Zones Act. BRP TERESA MAGBANUA will remain in the area and continue to shadow and monitor the CRV and the CCG vessels. The PCG will continue to track JIA HAI KE 7 through its coastal monitoring stations, the Dark Vessel Detection (DVD) system, and maritime domain awareness flights to make sure it does not return to Philippine waters to resume unauthorized activities. This mission is in accordance with the guidance of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to protect the country's maritime domain and not to tolerate any unauthorized foreign research within Philippine waters.

Unusual maritime activity near Hateruma Island: Our analysis found a Chinese fishing vessel appeared to guide a marine research vessel operating in Japan’s EEZ before joining a China Coast Guard ship east of Taiwan. Could this indicate maritime militia involvement? ingenispace.com/ingenispace-… #MaritimeDomainAwareness #OSINT

We track PRC research vessels around Taiwan—and their movements raise serious questions about submarine communication cable routes, critical infrastructure, and strategic access. The PRC takes a whole-of-society approach. The CCP understands that intelligence is an asymmetric form of deterrence. We should, too. We want to thank @StarboardIntel and our other data sources that do not want to be named for their support in our effort to bring transparency to PRC Irregular Warfare tactics. Teamwork makes the dream work Watch @RikGlauert's report on Deutsche Welle. youtube.com/shorts/Xd_RztvuT…
