Mumbai, Maharashtra: Intern doctors at JJ Hospital are protesting, demanding an increase in their stipend
Intern doctor Prajakta Tilekar says, "...Firstly, our stipend is only 18,000 rupees, which breaks down to just 600 rupees per day. In a place like Mumbai, this is not enough... We are demanding that our stipend be increased to 30,000 rupees."

Medical interns in J&K have officially called off their strike after the government raised their monthly stipend from ₹12,300 to ₹25,000, effective October 1, 2026.

CM’s Reported Approval Is Not Enough—No Formal Order, No Withdrawal of Strike!
The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), J&K Chapter, and the protesting medical interns of Jammu & Kashmir have taken a clear and unequivocal stand following media reports that the Hon’ble Chief Minister has approved the hike in MBBS/BDS interns’ stipend.
We welcome this reported decision, but we will not call off the strike on the basis of media reports, verbal assurances, or announcements. Our demand is clear: a formal government order with immediate implementation.
After repeated assurances, missed deadlines, and promises that remained unfulfilled, the interns will not be misled again. We are not fools, and we will not fall into the trap of another assurance without action.
The agitation will continue with full strength and determination until the official order is issued and implementation is ensured.
No more hollow promises. No more delays. No retreat without a formal order and immediate implementation.
