ABLE accounts offer freedom & greater independence. Access to and information about them should be given at every service touchpoint from CSE meetings to Medicaid and SNAP enrollment.
Nearly 8 in 10 voters have never heard of ABLE Accounts, including the same percentage of voters with disabilities. Only 4% say they know enough about the accounts to explain how they work.❗❗

What if Americans with disabilities could carry their funding with them instead of navigating a maze of government programs?
That's the idea behind innovative “ABLE backpacks” championed by @AbleAmericans Director Rachel Barkley.
A new American Enterprise Institute report highlights her vision for bringing funding from multiple government programs into one flexible account, giving individuals greater choice, control and independence.
The funding should follow the person, not the bureaucracy!

Every individual with a disability at every point of interaction with state & federal services should be informed about ABLE ACCOUNTS, and assisted in setting one up… We are confining so many to poverty, unemployment & dependency.
“In most states, people with disabilities and older adults can lose Medicaid eligibility if they save $2,000.”

Virginians vote NO on Amendment 1 this Nov. A child's disability diagnosis should not be a death sentence:
"The proposed new language of Amendment 1 would allow virtually unlimited abortion on demand at any point in a pregnancy. It would therefore also allow expectant parents to decide to abort their children late in pregnancy if prenatal testing detects anomalies or disabilities."

🔥 The National Center is making an impact — from Wall Street to Capitol Hill.
This month: We’re suing The New York Times. @FreeEntProject is pushing the SEC to protect investors from China supply-chain risks. @AbleAmericans is fighting to make disability supports portable across state lines. And @Project21News' Freedom Fellows took their message straight to Capitol Hill.
Plus, our experts are shaping the debate on socialism, Medicaid, corporate activism, education, energy and more — in print, on the air and across the country.

What if saving money could cost you your Medicaid?
Medicaid’s $2,000 asset limit can force people to spend down their savings just to keep the benefits they need—punishing the very people the program is supposed to help.
@DavidARidenour explains why it’s time to rethink this counterproductive policy.

Powerful work from @RachKBarkley we cannot expand programs we are not managing effectively. Ignoring fraud only weakens support. Will be sharing this widely. @tpapres take note.
Reform must do two things at once: root out improper payments and fraud, and strengthen the government's ability to recover misspent funds and hold bad actors accountable. 👇👇

🚨🚨 The services exist—so why must families fight so hard to access them?
Jackie’s story shows why we must rebuild the disability-support infrastructure, modernize outdated systems, and make it easier—not harder—for self-advocates and families to access essential support.
It’s time for a system that truly works for the people it was created to serve. 👏🏼👏🏼

I had a great conversation w/ @RachKBarkley of @AbleAmericans about disability policy, healthcare, and family support for Episode 107 of @freethe_economy: youtube.com/watch?v=sN2ZPmzX…
Two weeks after giving birth, @RachKBarkley woke up unable to move a single toe on her right foot.❗❗
What began as severe neck pain quickly became an unimaginable emergency—she could no longer walk safely or carry her newborn son.
That terrifying morning sent her to the ER and changed everything.

This is one of the most inspirational stories I have ever heard!
@RachKBarkley took a challenge that was thrust upon her and her family and has turned that into a movement to help others!

Americans with disabilities do not need more promises layered onto a broken structure. They need leaders willing to listen, simplify, coordinate and act. They need a system that sees their strengths, respects their choices and travels with them through every stage of life.

It was wonderful to chat with @realdocspeaks and get into more of the medical experience of my story. He is doing such important work to reform our system to put people at the center-- the patients and the doctors! Thanks so much for having me on!

Today's episode of the RealDocSpeaks Podcast tells the story of a young woman who triumphs over a devastating disease through her determination, faith, and the support of family and friends.
Her name is @RachKBarkley, and I guarantee that if you listen for a few moments, you will be drawn in and finish the episode.
There is nothing more powerful and moving in medicine than the words, thoughts, and struggles of our patients.

With my recent formation of #AccessibleFreedom, I am privileged to know the folks at @AbleAmericans! There are many aspects of living a typical American life that should not be impaired by one's disability. Expanding economic opportunities for people with disabilities should not be prevented by demanding lifetime impoverishment. The ideas discussed below begin to address this unnecessary situation.
#PracticalConservatism #MakeWorkWork
There is more work for Congress to do, such as eliminating the Medicaid clawback, opening the use of ABLE accounts for lump sum payments or retirement vehicles. 👏🏼👏🏼

While New Yorkers enthusiastically embrace a new Medical Aid in Dying law, we’re seeing the catastrophic results of such laws on the other side of the Atlantic.
At the New York Post, @AbleAmericans' Mark Mostert observes:
"Bottom line: Anyone can now be euthanized in the Netherlands at any time of life — from birth to old age, with doctors medically killing even children because of what they say is a 'medical necessity.'
"…Weep for this little child and for the many other children who will surely follow him or her to their early graves in the Netherlands. And maybe soon in New York, too."
