New release of FSD Supervised now starting to roll out
This update brings 20% faster reaction time to further increase safety, among many other improvements
Full release notes below
Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14.3 includes
- Upgraded the Reinforcement Learning (RL) stage of training the FSD neural network, resulting in improvements in a wide variety of driving scenarios.
- Upgraded the neural network vision encoder, improving understanding in rare and low-visibility scenarios, strengthening 3D geometry understanding, and expanding traffic sign understanding.
- Rewrote the AI compiler and runtime from the ground up with MLIR, resulting in 20% faster reaction time and improving model iteration speed.
- Mitigated unnecessary lane biasing and minor tailgating behaviors.
- Increased decisiveness of parking spot selection and maneuvering.
- Improved parking location pin prediction, now shown on a map with a (P) icon.
- Enhanced response to emergency vehicles, school buses, right-of-way violators, and other rare vehicles.
- Improved handling of small animals by focusing RL training on harder examples and adding rewards for better proactive safety.
- Improved traffic light handling at complex intersections with compound lights, curved roads, and yellow light stopping – driven by training on hard RL examples sourced from the Tesla fleet.
- Improved handling for rare and unusual objects extending, hanging, or leaning into the vehicle path by sourcing infrequent events from the fleet.
- Improved handling of temporary system degradations by maintaining control and automatically recovering without driver intervention, reducing unnecessary disengagements.
Upcoming Improvements
- Expand reasoning to all behaviors beyond destination handling.
- Add pothole avoidance.
- Improve driver monitoring system sensitivity with better eye gaze tracking, eye wear handling, and higher accuracy in variable lighting conditions.

I think it’s another good step down the path of accelerating sustainable abundance.
Tesla’s 2 most popular models went down in price where everyone else just got $7500 expensive. They did so while maintaining the things that are most important to customers (range, FSD, and functionality).
That’s huge for narrative as well as preventing an extended extreme dropoff in sales that will inevitably result.
Everyone else just got $7500 more expensive while Tesla pricing remained flat (and they still make money, THIS IS IMPORTANT). This is a golden opportunity to seize back market share that they’ve lost in the EV space.
Once the sugar crash of the tax credit going away fades, Tesla is extremely well positioned to a degree that nobody else in the America is.
The lower pricing means it’s cheaper for Tesla to buy down rates and offer aggressive promotions, making it easier to attract buyers. They were able to get the $43k dollar Model 3 to $299/mo with $0 down at one point so imagine what they can do with the $36k Model 3.
As an investor I hope and expect to see Tesla start pushing very aggressive financing and lease deals to acquire more customers.
The lower pricing also means that it’s easier for people to qualify for lending and leasing. $100 a month doesn’t seem like a lot but it is. It’s a lot easier for people to qualify for a loan if it’s 5 grand smaller.
They also managed to do this without devaluing existing vehicles and burning their owners (again) with an huge depreciation hit.
Going from $100k Model S to $45k Model 3 is less of a challenge in some respects because you can delete expensive stuff like the air suspension. It’s way harder to go from $43k Model 3 to $36k Model 3 without making the car feel like a total POS.
They’ve made a great car that appeals to a broader group of people. Most importantly, it’s a Trojan Horse to get FSD to more people.
Another step down the path.

All eyes will be on $TSLA on 10/10 for the robotaxi event. Investors will be curious to see if autonomy is closer to being solved.
Are you familiar with the “March of Nines" concept?
The "March of Nines" metaphor captures the essence of the challenge in autonomous vehicle development: each step towards perfection not only makes the system safer but also exponentially more difficult to achieve, illustrating the law of diminishing returns in the context of reliability engineering
If you say a system has a reliability of 99% (two nines), it means it operates correctly 99 out of 100 times. However, for critical systems like autonomous driving, 99% isn't nearly enough because the 1% failure rate could lead to accidents, injuries, or fatalities.
- **The March**: Each additional "nine" significantly increases the reliability. For instance:
- 99.9% (three nines) means the system fails once in a thousand operations.
- 99.99% (four nines) reduces this to one failure in ten thousand.
- And so on, towards 99.9999% (six nines), where failures become incredibly rare.
- **Complexity**: Achieving each additional nine becomes exponentially harder. It's not just about improving the technology but ensuring it can handle an almost infinite variety of scenarios, edge cases, and unpredictable human behaviors on the road.
-However, the closer one gets to 100%, the more elusive each incremental improvement becomes, often requiring not just linear progress in technology but breakthroughs in how autonomous systems learn and adapt.
Do you think autonomy will ever be completely solved ? Or will there always be edge cases ?
